SUSU Students Have the Unique Chance to Obtain Education in European Universities

South Ural State University, which is in the Top 1000 among universities around the world according to the leading consulting company QS, is actively expanding its scientific connections and strengthening international partnership with universities of other countries. The university offers opportunities to students, researchers, and teachers to obtain quality academic and research training in major universities in Europe within academic mobility programs.

Partnership with Universities of Slovakia and the Czech Republic

Programs of academic mobility are academic exchange programs lasting 1-2 semesters. Academic mobility aims at improving the quality of education, the implementation of new forms and techniques for education, and increasing students’ competitiveness.

“Our university has a strong position among the elite of international education and participates in many international projects. It’s impossible to imagine partnership between universities of different countries without student and teacher exchange. South Ural State University organizes programs for both outgoing and incoming programs of academic mobility. Students complete academic program in two universities according to a pre-agreed upon integrated academic plan. This means that the subjects they take in international universities are transferred to SUSU,” says Director of the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communication Elena Yaroslavova.

South Ural State University is a participant of the ERASMUS+ program which is aimed at supporting partnerships in academics, professional training, youth, and sports for the 2014-2020 period.

For example, SUSU students have the unique chance to complete a 3-month internship at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. During their internship, they get acquainted with the culture of this European country, with the approach international professors to the subjects studied in Russia, and find many new friends among international students from around the world. Students in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and postgraduate programs can take part in one of three fields: Economics (MA), Food Industry, or Technologies of Environment Protection.

Teachers and staff of the university are able to participate in the program and have the chance to complete a free professional internship in English at a European university, gain international experience, share their own professional experiences, and find like-minded people.

Another partner of SUSU is Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic), which offers academic programs in a wide range of fields of classical technical and natural sciences, fields in architecture and art, and interdisciplinary programs at the junction of engineering and natural science, economics and health services. The university is on the list of the best universities in the world (QS World University Rankings).

Josef Bednarik, student of Brno University of Technology, came to SUSU one year ago through an exchange program to complete his Master’s in Mechatronics and Robotics.

“In the Czech Republic, I study in the mechatronics program, so in Russia, I searched for this field in particular. There are only a few universities that offer this field of study, and SUSU happens to be one of them. More importantly, they teach it here in English, which is very comfortable for me.”

Education per European Standards in France

South Ural State University and Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Saint Etienne (ENISE, France) have been working together in the field of leading manufacturing technologies for 10 years. Since 2015, as part of the ERASMUS+ academic mobility program, ENISE and SUSU have been developing a joint program for projects in order to give a new impetus to the process of student exchange and to get closer to the European standards in implementing partnership.

In 2018, first-year Master’s student of the Faculty of Materials Science and Metallurgical Technologies of the SUSU Polytechnic Institute Sergey Strugov, and second-year postgraduate student of the same faculty Yuliya Latfullina earned Scholarships of the President of the Russian Federation to study at Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Saint Etienne ENISE.

“We will be studying subjects within our field. The knowledge and experience that we gain will be applied to our experiences at SUSU,” shares Sergey Strugov. “The school of engineering has good, modern equipment to study on. They also have well-developed additive technologies, selective laser deposition, remote spraying, and software. In our university, in turn, we have the Laboratory for Mechanics, Laser Processing, and Digital Technology, which was founded at the SUSU Polytechnic Institute jointly with the SMS-group company and Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Saint Etienne.”

In addition, SUSU students have earned participation in programs of academic mobility through the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and will soon go to study at Budapest University of Technology and Science (Hungary) and Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.

At present, South Ural State University is discussing partnership with universities in Italy: University of Siena, University of Bergamo, and University of Milan in the humanities, and with te University of Pisa in IT.
