On February 6th the final round of the 5th All-Russian Winter Universiade 2018 completed in Nizhni Tagil. As a result of the competition SUSU team took the 2nd place in the team scoring in orienteering. The team’s coach is Associate Professor at the Department of Self-perfection in Sports of the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service Elena Savinykh.
Also SUSU team took the 3rd place in the team scoring in cross-country skiing; the team’s coach is Associate Professor at the Department of Self-perfection in Sports of the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service Anastasia Bakhareva. Moreover, our athletes took the 7th place among other universities. The total of 61 university and 36 entities of the Russian Federation took part in the Universiade competitions, and the Chelyabinsk Region took the 1st place.
Master’s student of South Ural State University Tatiana Oborina is the most outstanding orienteering athlete of the Universiade. She was the winner of junior and youth World and European championships (including on cycling orienteering), and in 2015 she became the Continent Champion among adults. Back then Tatiana Oborina was awarded a prestigious sports title of an International Master of Sports. At Universiade 2018 she won both individual competitions.
“I like orienteering, it’s a fascinating sport, a new distance every day. I’m happy to be here and bring victories to my alma mater,” says Tatiana.
