The development of student Anastasia Fedosova from the Institute of Natural Sciences of South Ural State University has already been patented and implemented at the enterprise. Her idea allows solving an important problem of the environment’s pollution with industrial galvanic wastes.
“The problem of disposing galvanic industrial wastes along with radiation pollution is placed the first by the stress factors scale. Ions of heavy metals, carried by waste waters of galvanic industries, bring harmful influence on ecology and people, says Anastasia Fedosova. At the same time, enterprises often have a big volume of spent material – brass wastes, whose recycling assumes losses up to 50%. Speaking simply, the recycled chipping literally evaporates: about two millions of chipping per year are burnt in our country. The developed technology allows solving this problem rationally.”
As the development’s author emphasizes, the technology has been implementing at one of the enterprises of Zlatoust for one year; patent for the invention has also been obtained. When disposing wastes with the given method, the industry gets valuable chemical materials: powdered copper and zinc hydroxide, along with direct economy about 1 million rubles per year by reducing utilization of additional chemical materials and electrical energy.
Enterprises are interested in gaining profit from implementing new manufacturing technology. The developed method of wastes disposal allows providing this necessity and solving an important problem of the environment’s pollution with industrial galvanic wastes.
The research project got grant support of the Forward to Discoveries contest, held by SUSU within the 5-100 Program. Now the technology will be improved and presented to galvanic enterprises of the region.
