“To Set the Audience Hearts on Fire,” an Interview with the Chelyabinsk Participants of Contest “Student Miss and Mister of Russia”

The final show of the XI All-Russian Intellectual, Creative and Sports Contest “Student Miss and Mister of Russia 2017” will be held in Chelyabinsk on September 22-27. Shortly before the preliminaries we asked the participants representing SUSU, Vlad Novikov, and UralGUFK (Ural State University of Physical Education), Anna Evseeva, to share their emotions, their thoughts on the rivalry level, as well as their expectations of the finals.

– What was your way to the contest? Why did you decide to participate?

Anna Evseeva: For me, everything started two years ago when I decided to take part in our university’s contest “Miss and Mister of UralGUFK”. I won and was sent to the regional contest, where it was a bit more difficult, but again I did my best and good luck was on my side. I was extremely happy and surprised both the first time and the second one. Though, to be honest, I often dreamed of myself being on stage and winning the title. Thoughts are things, they say.

Vlad Novikov: I came to the contest having won a series of previous competitions, such as “Mister of SUSU” and “Student Miss and Mister of the Chelyabinsk Region”. I decided to participate since the rivalry at such a big contest is quite serious and I wanted to test myself and succeed in setting the audience hearts on fire one more time.

– What is in store for you ahead? What is the most difficult in the contest?

Anna Evseeva: I can’t wait for Friday, when all the fun but at the same time most of the difficulties will begin. Since the participants will be coming from all around the country, the preparations are being made at the shortest time possible. Within 4 days we need to make a beautiful show and take part in additional rounds, but everything will be done on time, we promise.

Vlad Novikov: All the rounds are just ahead, everything is just getting started. The hardest part for me was to adapt to the standard regulations of the performance. But I don’t think I will come across any more difficulties.

– What does the contest participation give you?

Anna Evseeva:  First and foremost, any such contest makes you more self-confident. We take a step out of our comfort zone, a step to growth and self-perfection. Surely, it is important to mention that the contest brings us new acquaintances, incredible emotions and memories. We gain so much spiritual experience, and it is so difficult to explain it – it is easier to take part and feel it. It is unforgettable, the understanding that you have become better, braver, wiser and stronger since you overcame yourself and your fears.

Vlad Novikov: This contest has already strangely improved my nervous system and brought much inspiration.

– Do you know other participants? How do you communicate? Is there any rivalry?

Anna Evseeva: There is always rivalry, but everyone tries not to show it. I am focused only on my performance. And it’s not me being egotistical, it’s just that it is better to concentrate on yourself rather than waste your energy worrying about others. There is only one crown after all. I haven’t had a chance to meet anyone yet, we only talked online. And, you know, it’s kind of embarrassing, but I don’t think I could remember the names of all 50 participants in 4 days. But I’m sure there will be some nice acquaintances after the contest with whom I will be glad to distance-communicate further on.

Vlad Novikov: I do not know anyone personally, except for Anna Evseeva, but I already feel some friendly rivalry.

– What do you expect of the finals?

Anna Evseeva: At the finals, I hope to receive feedback from the audience, votes from my friends and just supporters from Chelyabinsk, and of course, I hope that I and Vlad Novikov perform well. I will cheer for him, too. I will try to do my best to, among other things, win the main prize of the evening, but even if I don’t succeed, I’m already happy to have been granted an honour of representing the Chelyabinsk Region at such a big event.

Vlad Novikov: I’m looking forward for an unforgettable show.
