The SUSU Center for Computing Engineering started to get ready for the opening of a unique laboratory, in which engineers in the field of production and product life cycle management will be trained.
One of the most important conditions for technological breakthrough in Russia is the advanced training of engineers. It only becomes possible when education, science and technology are united. This is the only way to achieve breakthrough development of industrial technology and efficient import phase-out. That is why in the autumn of 2017 the SUSU Center for Computing Engineering along with the world’s leader – the Siemens Corporation – is launching a large scientific and educational project. It was composed back in the middle of last year, when, during the largest Russian industrial exhibition INNOPROM, SUSU and the Siemens PLM Software company signed an agreement on collaboration.
SUSU and Siemens PLM Software are long-standing colleagues and partners. They are united by many years’ experience of collaboration in the field of full-scale dynamic tests, developing of mechanisms with intelligent control and products based on them. And now, thanks to the establishment of the joint educational center – the laboratory of digital engineering technologies Siemens – the collaboration of the two leaders is moving to a principally new level.
Nowadays, the problem of deficit of new generation engineers who mastered present-day technologies of design and engineering analysis technologies, and who are capable of solving virtual simulation problems, is urgent. Thanks to cooperation with Siemens PLM Software, training and professional advancement of exactly such specialists will be performed on the basis of the SUSU Center for Computing Engineering.
At the present time, the laboratory is being equipped with high-performance software. Engineers and top-managers of Siemens PLM Software will be teaching along with SUSU professors. This will allow for organizing educational process on the examples of solving real engineering problems, and conduct training in a wide range of engineering and interdisciplinary specialties.
Students, postgraduates and PhD students of the Polytechnic Institute, Higher School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and other SUSU divisions will take training at the laboratory. Besides, here the accomplished engineers will be able to upgrade their qualification. They will be able to master computing modeling on the base of the Center.
Aside from educational activity, the laboratory will conduct scientific research and development. For example, it is planned to develop automated design techniques for industrial giants. After all, the main competitive advantage of the laboratory is in computer modeling of processes, which means, in fact, replacing the physical prototype of the product with its virtual version - a digital model. Therefore, this helps to speed up the development and reduce its cost, provide the high speed of bringing products to markets and improve their quality.
The laboratory of digital engineering technologies Siemens will be located in the middle of Chelyabinsk, not far from the Revolution Square, in the University’s academic building at the address: 50, ulitsa Ordzhonikidze. It will be convenient to get there for both students and working specialists who is upgrading their qualification. Especially for the Siemens PLM Software educational center, the University has already allocated specialized convenient premises; furniture and high-tech equipment are currently being purchased. The opening of the Center is scheduled for September 14. It is planned to coincide the opening of the Center with a large scientific and practical conference, during which the engineering elite of the region will share their opinions on the development of engineering.
