The selection stage for the Electrical energy and metallurgy league of the V International Engineering Competition Case-In was held on April 19th at South Ural State University, in which student teams complete engineering case studies from materials of the industry’s leading companies and defend their ideas in front of an expert commission - all in 10 days.
The competition is held in 47 universities and covers 35 regions of Russia and CIS countries – this means more than 85 selection stages. More than 3000 students participated. They are fighting for the chance to battle in the competition’s final to be held on May 30th – 31st in Moscow. The winning teams of the selection stages will fight for the title of best student engineering teams and for the chance to complete practical studies and internships at the industry’s leading companies. The winners of the Mining league and the Electrical energy league will also have a chance to participate in annual summer educational programs Mining School and Energy of Youth. Today, the competition brings together five categories – mining, metallurgy, oil and gas engineering, electrical energy, and prospecting.
“We expect the participants to show good results, since the companies are choosing the best students to be employed with them,” says event organizer and vice dean of the Faculty of Material Engineering and Metallurgical Technologies, Ivan Ilin.
Opening words were offered by SUSU vice rector of strategic development Andrey Keller, dean of the Faculty of Power Engineering Sergey Gandzha, and representative of the competitions partner-companies, who also served as the expert jury.
The Case-in International Engineering Competition is the only federal case competition. This is an effective instrument to pass along practical knowledge, experience, and new skills to future specialists and engineers. The competition’s organizers are the Nadezhnaya Smena Fund and the non-commercial partnership Youth Forum for Leaders in Mining. International Council for Large, High Voltage Energy Systems (SIGRE) is co-organizer of the electrical energy league, and for the oil and gas engineering league – Tyumen Industrial University. In 2017, five federal ministries are acting as partners of the competition – the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Nature, the Ministry of Science, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as the Federal Agency of Youth Affairs (Rosmolodyozh) and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives for Advancing New Projects.
