On January 31st, SUSU student Anna Nechaevskaya secured two victories simultaneously at the International Winter Universiade in Almaty (Kazakhstan). More than 2000 students from 55 countries are taking part in the Universiade, competing in 13 sports. Anna earned a gold medal in the 5km pursuit with a result of 13:29:07. One day earlier, the young lady earned silver in the individual 5km race with a result of 14:21:09. Anna Nechaeva’s main competition was another Russian, Liliya Vasileva, and a representative of Kazakhstan, Anna Shevchenko.
The Universiade will continue until February 8th.
“I didn’t expect such a result, of course, from yesterday’s race. I did not have special training for this first competition at such a high elevation and I didn’t know how the acclimatization period would go. I didn’t know how my body would respond and what to expect from that. Besides all of that, this is not even my running discipline, as I ski better than I run, but it all worked out! To be honest, both races were very difficult, the mountains let themselves be known, and today the weather also helped with that; the snow and track are too soft! I had to push through and wheeze until the end, but I’m very happy that it all worked out and turned out well,” said the athlete.
This young lady combines education in the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service while successfully working on her sporting career. According to Anna, many people combine education and sport, the main thing is to get your assignments on time, complete them, and turn them in.
We are proud of our athlete and wish her future success in her education and sport!
