Dean of the Faculty of History of South Ural State University, Professor Natalia Parfentieva, and Head of the Department of History of Russia, Professor Igor Sibiryakov, took part in the meeting of historians of the Ural Federal District which took place on March 4, 2016 at Tyumen. More than 60 teachers of universities and schools, archivists, museum workers, and local historians have discussed a wide range of issues related to the activities of the Russian Historical Society, teaching of history at schools and universities of the country and the implementation of a number of educational projects.
The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, Sergey Naryshkin.
‘Being a historian of the Urals is a special responsibility. After all, an outstanding scientist, one of the founders of National Historical Science, Vasily Tatishchev was the founder of Ekaterinburg and Perm. And Ural itself was the outpost of new lands, - he stressed. - Power should not and would not edify historians. On the contrary, all the society expects objective coverage of the events of the past from the experts. It counts on their professionalism and scientific honesty.’
Plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Ural Federal District, Igor Kholmanskikh, took part in the meeting. He pointed out that history is not only the science of the past but also the collective memory.
‘Patriotism for the historian is the adherence to scientific truth. It is important to consolidate the professional community of historians combining high standards of scientific activity and active citizenship. Russian Historical Society fulfills this mission - expressed his opinion the presidential envoy.
Professor N.V. Parfentieva and I.V. Sibiryakov talked about several major historical projects implemented in recent years at South Ural State University, as well as the plans of Chelyabinsk branch of Russian Historical Society.
