SUSU scientists are engaged in the development and creation of the production of hydraulic servo drives with hydrostatic guideway. With the support from the Government of the Chelyabinsk Region, a team of scientists is developing modern Russian software for controlling a hydraulic servo drive using a personal computer. In October 2023, the project team submitted two applications for registration of computer programs.
The SUSU Music Club and Association of International Students organised the Festival of the Peoples of the World creativity event, which was dedicated to celebration of National Unity Day.
Festival of the Peoples of the World is an event at which representatives of different nationalities present music of their peoples. This event allows students to share their cultural heritage with others, as well as to learn traditions of other nationalities.

A ceremony for awarding the regional and federal state prizes to South Ural residents with certain achievements was held at the residence of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region on October 27th. The Head of the Department of Architecture of South Ural State University Salavat Shabiev was among the awardees. The university activity was assessed as per five fields: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry – the total of 17 criteria.
Our university has entered the 601-800 group, having outperformed 66 Russian universities. Last year SUSU was in the 801-1000 group.
Specialists from the SUSU Mechanical Engineering Research Institute have designed a garbage truck capable of operating both on an internal combustion engine and on electric power. Electric motor in the transport will ensure its silent and environmentally friendly operation when working in the city. The truck will be produced at the Ural Automobile Plant.
Ural Diesel Engine Plant (UDEP) produces a promising series of DM-185 high-speed multi-purpose engines, which are installed on ships, railway locomotives and quarry vehicles. However, imported components are still used for the production of such engines, in particular pistons from a well-known German company. In 2018, the plant turned to scientists from South Ural State University for help − they needed to create an original piston from domestic materials for the manufacture of high-speed engines.

On October 12th the History Milestones All-Russian Symposium opened. It is dedicated to the history of the peoples of the Ural region, Western Siberia and the Volga region in the 12th-19th centuries. The conference is organized by South Ural State University, Kurgan State University, Sh. Mardzhani Institute of History of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Ufa Federal Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chelyabinsk Military History Society, as well as the “South Urals” Public Foundation.
A ceremony of awarding the winners of the first prize for infrastructure projects based on "Vedomosti. Impuls" public and private partnership has been held in Moscow. Our Inter-university Campus project has received an award in the special category “Investing in the Future”.

This year, the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles under the Russian Ministry of Education and Science celebrates its 90th anniversary. Representatives of almost all CIS countries have arrived in Moscow to attend the anniversary plenum of the Russian State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles. Mathematician Aleksandr Samarov is a few years older than SUSU: the university celebrates its eightieth anniversary this year, and Aleksandr is 88. Another wording would be more correct: the scientist’s youth coincided with the youth of the university − the period of establishment of Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (CPI). Aleksandr Samarov, having played an important role in the history of various Chelyabinsk universities, did not lose touch with CPI − CSTU − SUSU, and in the mid-2000s he returned here as an experienced specialist, the author of numerous textbooks.
