Karaoke BattleKaraoke Battle is one of the most interesting events of SUSU. There is one rule: "Sing!". Students from different countries sing their national songs and then favorite Russian songs. Friendly atmosphere and fun occur that evening! |
African Culture DayOur African guests did African Culture Day for the first time in 2018. The event started with a video presentation of the African continent and flag parade. A show by students in national costumes followed. DRC students performed a scene from an African fairy-tale and read a rap song in their native language. Their peers from other African countries presented African folk songs and dances and recited Mikhail Lermontov’s poem The Sail. At the close of the culture festival, guests were treated to national African dishes. |
Arab Culture DayArab students introduce the architecture and art of their countries and show the most famous sights and ancient cities. All the stories are accompanied with Arab songs, dances and poems about the countries. This holiday annually attracts attention of representatives of embassies and consulates of Arab countries. Last years, among the honorable guests were: Nadir Yousif Eltayeb Babiker, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Russian Federation, Riad Haddad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Russian Federation, and Osana El-Sayed Mahmoud Elservi, Advisor of the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt. |
Eurasian Culture DayThe celebration is held as part of the International Festival of Creativity “Together”. International and Russian students from South Ural State University, representatives of national cultural centers, presented 23 performances imbued with national colors for the audience. The participants perform in 4 categories: Songs in Native Tongue, Art of Declamation, Choreography, and Folk Instrumental Performance. Salamat Laykhan, student of the Polytechnic Institute, decided to participate in three categories. |
Sri Lankan New YearIn the middle of April (on 13th or 14th day), when the sun moves from the twelfth house of the zodiac (the sign of Pisces) to the first house (the sign of Aries), Sri Lankan people celebrate their national New Year - Aluth Avurudda. The celebration begins with a video presentation about relationships between Russia and Sri Lanka. International students present artistic performances on the occasion of New Year celebration. Guests of the New Year celebration took part in funny competitions and enjoyed the celebratory dinner with national treats. |
Nowruz – New Year’s for the Iranian and Turkish peoplesNowruz is the first day of the Iranian calendar, falling on the Ohrmazd day of the month of Farvardin (roughly March 21st). This holiday comes from pre-islamic times: the Iranian and Turkish peoples celebrated the new year, which in that time coincided with Spring Equinox. Guests off this event are immersed in the holiday atmosphere and learn many new things about our neighbors’ traditions. The program includes traditional dances, poetry, and songs, performed by students from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Iraqi Kurdistan. |
Tea ceremonyFebruary, 4 is the Independence Day of Sri Lanka! About 70 years ago Ceylon, as the state was called then , gained independence from the British Empire. In honor of the holiday, the students from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Vietnam and Indonesia conduct a real tea ceremony for all guests! The students speak about their country, take photos, treat with sweets, and of course, tea. It is really "delicious"! |
SportSport is life! Every month we hold different sports competitions. The most favorite these one are mini-football, tennis and chess. In 2018 the team of Arab students of SUSU took the second place in Chelyabinsk’s competitions of mini-football and received awards from the head of the city. We take part in competitions that take place in other cities such as Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don Also international students learn to skate, ski, snowboard. |
Passing qualifying standards of the all-Russian physical educationInternational students of South Ural State University took part in passing qualifying standards of the all-Russian physical education and sports complex training program called Ready for Labor and Defense (GTO). At the indoor athletics stadium of SUSU students tried themselves in various sports: they ran against the time, did push-ups and abs workout, and even shoot the target using an electric rifle. |
Youth Cooking FestivalOur students traditionally take part in the International Youth Cooking Festival The air here is a mixture of the aromas of Sri Lankan spices, Uzbek pilaw and Chinese vegetables. The venue is flashing the rave of colours of traditional national garments and babbling with voices of people greeting each other and trying to learn about the interesting dishes of the fellow presenters. There are aroma of delicious food and the atmosphere of creativity that reigned. |
