Starting from May of 2018, in the frameworks of project-based learning, students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at SUSU ISSH’s Faculty of Journalism are taking part in an international journalism project called EUfactcheck, organised by the European Journalism Training Association. The purpose of the project is to check information, organise fact checking and teach this process to the new generation of journalists.
On January 18, a cross-platform roundtable discussion entitled «Arkaim, the territory of understanding: on formation of historical foundation of regional ideology of cultural, national and religious unity” was held at South Ural State University. The event featured administrative staff and scientists of SUSU, CSU, Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture and Arts, administrative staff of National Park Arkaim and Centre of Tourism Development for the Chelyabinsk region, representatives of the Public Chamber and entrepreneurs.

International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) is a Worldwide professional organisation which has almost 2000 of active members representing media companies and universities of France, Spain, Germany, India, Turkey, Czech Republic, Russia and other countries, among which there are more than 80 supervisors and mentors of profile sections and working groups, 30 members of the International Council, five members of executive authorities and representatives of various committees and target groups.
During the celebratory events that took place at SUSU from 10th through 14th of December of 2018, a project entitled “Digital History of SUSU” got presented at the university’s Exhibition Centre. In the course of this event, guests and university employees got introduced to a new website which features information about the history of CMEI, CPI, CSTU and SUSU, and uploaded digitalized documents regarding the university’s history as well as photo and video materials.
Research fellow of the SUSU REC of Eurasian Studies and Head of Archeos Centre Ivan Semyan has won an EXARC grant for joint research. The scientist is the only archaeologist representing Russia at EXARC. EXARC, an international experimental archaeology organisation, is an association of experimental archaeologists, as well as of open-air museums and archaeological parks.
The SUSU Department of Russian Language and Literature has been working with the University of Zurich Department of Slavonic Studies for several years now. The partnership is being fulfilled in all possible scientific fields: delivering lectures, participating in conferences, and joined work of the student journals SlavicumPress and Divan.
South Ural State University always responds to requests set before the region. At present among the most topical ones is the issue of the media ecological image of Chelyabinsk, which negatively affects the development of our region. To solve this problem, a complex project on the Ecology of Consciousness was elaborated by the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, and was initiated and coordinated by the Department of Philosophy.
The history of South Ural State University dates back 75 years. Over three quarters of a century, strong scientific schools in the spheres of natural sciences, engineering and humanities have formed here. One of the schools is the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities’ Scientific School called “Ancient History and Archaeology of Forest-Steppe and Steppe Eurasia”.
Being guided by the goal of improving the quality of training of the new generation of journalists, the Faculty of Journalism of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities jointly with the Union of Journalists of the Chelyabinsk Region and supported by the Department of Press-service and Information for the Chelyabinsk Region Government, as well as by the EJTA (European Journalism Training Association), are holding a new international social study on Fact-checking and the Tasks of Modern Journalistic Education.
On December 15 of 2018, South Ural State University is to celebrate the 75th anniversary from its foundation day. Active preparation for the celebration, which is going to take place within five days, 10th through 14th of December, is being carried out at SUSU. Celebratory event programme will include opening of new laboratories and exhibitions, as well as presentations, concerts, flash mobs, contests and more.
South Ural State University is a dynamically developing university which is rightfully considered to be one of the leading higher education institutions in Russia. December 15 is the 75th anniversary from the day of the university’s foundation, and first celebratory events which reflected eventful history as well as cultural and sport traditions of the university started today.
On December 13, South Ural State University opened its own brand studio. The brand studio is a store of office supplies, clothing, hats, backpacks, and other useful items, which depict the logotype of South Ural State University.

A series of celebratory events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the university continues at South Ural State University. On the occasion of the university’s 75th anniversary, Directors of Schools and Institutes awarded letters of appreciation and honorary credentials to outstanding academics and administrative staff.
On December 13th at 11:30 the Eurasia in the Ancient Times presentation of the studies by SUSU archaeologists and foreign scientists, on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of our university, will be held at Pushkin Hall (Room 244 of the Main University Building). The presentation is organized by the Eurasian Studies Research and Education Centre of the Faculty of History of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
December 12th at 12:30 the SUSU Leaders 2018 Photo Gallery will be opened at the Scientific Library of South Ural State University in honour of the SUSU Anniversary. The exhibits of the photo gallery include portraits of the members of the Rectorate, institute directors, faculty deans, heads of offices and divisions, department heads, and professors who have achieved recognition and authority among their peers.
On November 26, Sochi State University supported by Russkiy Mir Foundation opened the III International Russian Language Week.
The programme of the Forum is extensive: the International Youth Conference “Russian Verbal and Cognitive Culture: Issues of Communication’s Efficiency”, an Olympiad, competitions on declamatory skills and polemics, speaking and creative works, online posts, and posters.
The Online International Science-to-practice Conference on Journalism of Regions: Discourses and Media Practices was organised at the initiative of Tomsk State University. The Faculty of Journalism of South Ural State University was represented by Anvar Ismailov, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Candidate of Sciences (Philosophy).
Friday, November 16th, a ceremony of awarding the Regional Parliament scholarships to the best students of the Chelyabinsk Region was held at the conference hall of the Legislative Assembly.
A constituent meeting of the regional branch of the Russian Professorial Assembly Russian Social Organisation was held at South Ural State University. This event became the beginning of a new stage of development for the academic and scientific societies of the Chelyabinsk Region.
At South Ural State University a masterclass was held by the Chief Editor of Moskovsky Komsomolets – Ural newspaper Aleksandr Skripov, who shared his experience of working in mass media with the students of the Faculty of Journalism of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.

On November 14, an excursion to Height-239 welding shop of the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant JSC was organised for philologists of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
A methodology master class by the Department of Russian and International History will be held at 16:00 on November 8th, 2018. Acelya Bakir, postgraduate student from the University of Düsseldorf (Germany) who is currently completing her internship at SUSU, will give a presentation.
Participants of the project of the Virtual Museum of South Ural’s Writers – master’s degree students of the Department of Russian Language and Literature – are working on the first key stages of the work, which is panoramic shooting of the object, the museum/apartment of a famous poet from Chelyabinsk, Yanis Grants.
The traditional Practical Training Day for students of the Journalism and Advertising and Public Relations degree programmes was held at ISSH Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. This year, future journalists and specialists in advertising and public relations completed their Practical Trainings abroad, in the Czech Republic, and in 22 cities across Russia, including Moscow, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Snezhinsk, Magnitogorsk, Krasnoturinsk, Krasnoufimsk, Mezhgorye, Asha, and other cities.
