On February 8, a ceremonious opening of the new Laboratory of Robotic Engineering, which became part of the Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, took place at South Ural State University.
Rector of South Ural State University, Aleksandr Shestakov, noted the huge perspectives of using the brand-new equipment:
It is no mystery that Russian winters might be harsh. Located on the boundary between Europe and Asia, Chelyabinsk is a Siberian city, and its temperatures fall far below zero in winter. However, it does not mean only the bravest can survive here. In fact, Russian nature is exceptionally beautiful and mysterious in winter, with snow sparkling on the trees like diamonds. Skating, skiing, strolling in snowy parks (weather allowed!), and drinking hot beverages – Russian winter is a must-have experience.
In most cases, accidents and injuries result from mistakes made by humans. In this context, the issue of how to safeguard human lives in household conditions and in industrial operations becomes important. This field is being studied by South Ural State University scientists, who have developed a training system for drivers and for industry workers with consideration of their specific psychophysiological features.
On January 24, 2019 a ceremony of awarding diplomas to the graduates of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering was held. Forty engineers majoring in Design of Aircraft and Rocket Engines; Design, Manufacture and Operation of Rockets and Rocket-and-space Complexes; Aircraft and Helicopter Engineering; Ammunition and Fuze Mechanisms, graduated from the Faculty. Eight people were awarded diplomas with honours this year. Special diplomas were awarded for the best graduate qualification works.
The fourth industrial revolution, when digital production unites industry and digital technologies, has become a reality. People manage production with the help of digital technologies and the Internet, so traditional education techniques are already insufficient. Within SUSU’s project-based learning, the Department of Automated Electric Drive of the Faculty of Energy and Power Engineering of the Institute of Engineering and Technology trains students in technologies of managing smart electric drives at modern factories.
In the age of Industry 4.0, digitalization of metal working processes is becoming more and more important. In contemporary mechanical engineering, metal-cutting machines form the main equipage for industrial purposes. SUSU scientists in cooperation with the world’s leader in production of thread-forming tools – the Vargus Company (Israel) – are going to develop recommendations on tool production using multi-axis machines with computer numerical control.
Differential electric drives with synchronous outside-excitation jet engines is a relatively new field of research, which formed at SUSU in the 1980s. Earlier, a significant role in the development of the Ural scientific school of electric drive was played by the Department of Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations of Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (now SUSU).
Russian scientific schools of roller operators, established within the 20th century, use two generalized approaches – the force balance method and the energy method, which have modifications in their structures. The founder of the Chelyabinsk scientific school of roller operators was Vladimir Vydrin (1920-1988), postgraduate student of one of the pioneers of the Ural scientific school of metallurgists, Professor at Ural Polytechnic Institute, Akim Golovin.
Automobile and Tractor Faculty of South Ural State University celebrated its 75th anniversary. A series of festive events took place in honour of this significant date.
Automobile and Tractor Faculty became one of the first faculties of Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute, the current SUSU. By the 75th anniversary, the organized festive events called together students, academics, and graduates of the home faculty.
South Ural State University’s Institute of Engineering and Technology is the quintessence of the university’s engineering sciences. For 75 years already, SUSU has been performing training of the best specialists in the sphere of mechanical engineering and metal working.
In the course of time, the university started establishing scientific schools which allow performing real-life study of advanced technologies applied not only within our country but also abroad.
Scientists of South Ural State University elaborated a unique technology for manufacture of products made of carbon graphite materials with high performance properties. The new technology will be applicable in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, electric power industry and electrical engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering, atom power engineering and rocket and space industry.
South Ural State University is a university with an interesting history and varied traditions. It is a multidisciplinary academic institution which is famous for its scientific achievements, high level of education for specialists, fundamental scientific base, and material and technical support for scientific research and the academic process.
On December 15 of 2018, South Ural State University is to celebrate the 75th anniversary from its foundation day. Active preparation for the celebration, which is going to take place within five days, 10th through 14th of December, is being carried out at SUSU. Celebratory event programme will include opening of new laboratories and exhibitions, as well as presentations, concerts, flash mobs, contests and more.
A series of celebratory events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the university continues at South Ural State University. On the occasion of the university’s 75th anniversary, Directors of Schools and Institutes awarded letters of appreciation and honorary credentials to outstanding academics and administrative staff.
Mechanical and Technological Faculty is one of the two faculties, which South Ural State University originated from. The Faculty was established on December 15, 1943 alongside with the foundation of Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute.
On December 11, the memorial plate in honour of the 100-anniversary of Professor Aleksandr Timofeevich Poletsky will be mounted at South Ural State University.
Project-based learning is being actively developed at our university today and touches upon all aspects of modern society. The Smart House project by the Department of Power Stations, Grids, and Electric Power Systems of the Faculty of Energy and Power Engineering of the Institute of Engineering and Technology is one of the most interesting projects complying with the trends of digitalization of all spheres of our life.
Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor Vladimir Kozheurov is the founder of the school of Physical Chemistry of Metallurgical Systems and Processes. In the years of the war, with an acute shortage of qualified staff, V.A. Kozheurov provided theoretical training to future metallurgical engineers. At the same time, together with O.A. Esin he worked on proton transition during the electrolytic discharge of hydrogen ions.
On December 12 of 2018, reunion of alumni representing various Faculties of the Institute of Engineering and Technology is to take place at 13.00 at Sigma Education and Leisure Complex.
Two projects by researchers from South Ural State University have entered the final of the VI Small Energy – Great Achievements international award.
Six projects by South Ural researchers will be fighting for victory. They presented objects of small distributed and alternative power engineering constructed in various cities of the Chelyabinsk region and a number of interesting innovative pilot projects to the jury.
On October 29 SUSU held an awarding ceremony for prize winners of the All-Russian Championship on Technological Strategy in Metallurgy “Metal cup-2018”.
Establishment of digital economics and switching to Industry 4.0 is the strategy goal of Russia. Improvement of traffic infrastructure plays a very important role in this process. Scientists of South Ural State University within the AutoNet national technology initiative are working on the Smart Transportation project, in the frameworks of which an intelligent system for control over the city traffic system is to be created. The project will feature large industrial and IT companies of the country, as well as the city administration of Chelyabinsk.
Students of South Ural State University actively participate in Academic Mobility programs, which are being fulfilled at the university for 6 year now.
