What are the prospects of Russian education? How do students adapt to life in another country? A SUSU student Yaro Abubakar from Côte d'Ivoire who studies at School of Medical Biology (major: Psychology) told us about this.
Why do you like Russia, Chelyabinsk, and SUSU?
“I have been always dreaming of traveling to Russia. This is the country that preserves its traditions, I love it. Life in Chelyabinsk is quiet and peaceful. Studying at SUSU gives me great knowledge and wonderful experience. I think it will be my greatest advantage in the future.”
What do you remember most about your study? What subjects are your favourite ones?
“One of the main things in life is the process of getting knowledge. Thanks to the Russian system of education, I learnt the names of famous psychologists, the methods of their work, and some of them are fascinating and memorable. I really like all my subjects and can’t name any favourite one.”
How do you plan to use your education in the future?
“That’s a good question! I am not sure about my future yet, but there are two options: either to come back home and work as a psychological consultant for political affairs or try to find a job in Russia. It remains to be seen.”
What was your greatest challenge about living in Russia?
“The greatest challenge to any person in a foreign country is to get adapted to living in new environment. But the SUSU Association of International Students and SUSU Center for Sociocultural Adaptation made the process easy and entertaining. I am very grateful to the organizations for their work. Thanks to it I wasn’t bored at all: I was a host at celebrations, took part in holidays and studied without any problems.”
Did you get any help from your compatriots having arrived in Chelyabinsk earlier than you?
“In fact, I was one of the first people from Côte d'Ivoire to come to Chelyabinsk, so guys from other countries helped me.”
What is the topic of your thesis?
“There is no precise wording of my thesis, but I think it will be in the field of foreign specialists’ potential in the system of higher education and city councils with the psychological cooperation of university staff.”
Why do many universities try to attract international students for studying?
“Even the best universities never stop trying to develop and dreaming of becoming the first university in the world. Nowadays it is important for a university to be famous and share researches with foreign colleagues. International students contribute to the process of interaction between educational organizations and spreading ideas.”
What would you wish young people who are selecting a university now?
“Of course, I will advise them to enter South Ural State University - it will give a perfect start to their careers.”
Do you keep in touch with your compatriots who got a SUSU degree? Where do they work?
“Next year I will be the first SUSU graduate from Côte d'Ivoire and I hope that some years later my name will be used to answer this question.”
