Youth Initiative Centre Launched in Chelyabinsk

In the autumn of 2019, the Trade Union Committee of South Ural State University won a grant from the Presidential Grants Fund for the implementation of the project called From Youth Initiatives to Professional Non-profit Organizations (NPOs). As part of the project, a Youth Initiative Centre has already been created, and the first School of Youth NPOs will be held in March.

The Youth Initiative Centre is a non-profit organization the goal of which is to create “quick start” opportunities for initiative residents of the South Ural region in the non-profit sector. Within the framework of the Centre, support will be provided on methodological, resource and informational work of youth associations of the city of Chelyabinsk and the region as a whole. According to Director of the Centre Alexei Kosarev, the Youth Initiative Centre is "an opportunity for active people to create jobs for themselves and to obtain employment in their own organization. For NPOs, it is a chance to rejuvenate the staff and draw new people into the work."

The Youth Initiative Centre is also currently working on the School of Youth NPOs. The project will be carried out from April 10 to April 26, 2020. Its essence is to create an educational course that allows young people from among student associations to get acquainted with the non-profit scope of business, to discover the necessary tools for creating their own organizations and their financing, as well as to gain teamwork and social design skills. Classes at the school will be devoted to workflow of NPOs, effective models of participation of NPOs in the development of the social sphere, legal aspects of the work of socially oriented NPOs, types of grant support for youth (All-Russian Youth Project Contest), and grant support to socially oriented NPOs (Presidential Grants Fund, Governor's Grants Fund, subsidies by the Ministry of Social Relations of the Chelyabinsk Region, Gorchakov Fund, Potanin Fund, and Timchenko Fund). The school is the first step towards creating a dream job. The next stage is on-site and individual consultations with specialists and launching the work of their own organization.

After finishing the school, project teams will be formed with the purpose of creating 10 socially oriented non-profit organizations. Chairman of the Student Coordinating Council of the Ural Federal District, Deputy Chairman of the SUSU Trade Union Committee Gennadii Budanov says: "With the help of the School of Youth NPOs, we would like to introduce young people to work in the non-profit sector and the activities of socially oriented non-profit organizations. Participants will be able to learn how to turn their idea into their dream job. We will help the best participants to open NPOs and will support them throughout the work of our project."

The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund and by the efforts of the SUSU Trade Union Committee.
