“60 years is an immensely long way, which the Department’s team has covered. Each staff member has multiple achievements. Our university offers the best project-based learning. It was organized by Sergei Vaulin at his Department at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. I would like to wish you successful work and productive communication with your colleagues and partners.”
The administrative and academic staff are the main value of South Ural State University. And today, the work by many of them has been marked by the Federation of Cosmonautics. Thus, the Sergei Korolev Medal of Merit for Cosmonautics was awarded to Head of the Department of Aircraft Engines Sergei Vaulin and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering Ekaterina Zarnitsyna. The Valentin Glushko Medal was awarded to Dean of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering Viktor Fedorov and to Director of the Aerospace Engineering Research and Education Centre Aleksey Shults. The Viktor Makeyev Medal was awarded to senior lecturer Valery Bogdanov, to Professor Valery Kirillov , and to Associate Professor Ruslan Peshkov. Letters of acknowledgment of the Rector of South Ural State University were awarded to senior lecturer Ekaterina Zarnitsyna, Professor Valery Kirillov , master of training Galina Popova , and Associate Professor Rostislav Shelkhovsky.
Director of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Head of the Department of Aircraft Engines, Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor Sergei Vaulin delivered his report at the plenary meting. The report by Professor Vaulin was dedicated to the present and the future of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, and of course, of the Department of Aircraft Engines.
“Today, our motto is ‘From Engineering 3.0 to Industry 4.0’. We have significantly moved forward over the recent time. Science, education and commercialization are tied together in the Engineering 3.0. On the one hand, we are training staff, conducting research studies, and intend to commercialize our results. But today, this is not enough already. We have decided that we need to perform the transition towards digitalization, and namely, to Industry 4.0. This allows to implement the Internet into everyday things, and make our life more convenient and modern,” shares Sergei Vaulin.
Among the speakers at the plenary meeting also were: Deputy Director for Research & Development and Chief Designer of the Research & Development Institute of Mechanical Engineering Sergei Buldashev (the 1980 Department’s alumnus); Head of the Department of Special Mechanical Engineering of Nizhny Tagil Technological Institute, Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor Evgeny Khmelnikov , and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Moscow Polytechnic University, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering) Evgeny Safonov (the 2000 Department’s alumnus).
The second part of day one of the All-Russian Science and Technology Conference launched a section on Weapons and Military Equipment, which was held by Associate Professor of the Department of Aircraft Engines Marina Semashko.
