Children’s Internet University of SUSU: Results of the First Academic Year

Children’s Internet University of SUSU is successfully finishing its first academic year. Within this time, school students from all around Russia could learn fundamentals of various sciences, which the university’s lecturers taught in an interesting form.

The new project of the Institute of Open and Distance Education attracted school students aged 8-18, who studied by video lectures dedicated to sociology, political science, history, philosophy, jurisprudence and philology. With a great interest school students answered the questions published after each online meeting with lecturers on official public page of the education project in VKontakte social network (vk.com/deti.susu).

“Children’s Internet University allows SUSU efficiently implement the concept of continuous education. Its activity promotes development of research and creative abilities of school students,” notes Aleksandr Demin, Director of the Institute of Open and Distance Education.

One of the colorful projects of 2018 was a series of video lectures entitled “Atomic world in full view”, created in cooperation with the Information Center of Atomic Energy of the city of Chelyabinsk. Unusual experiments helped presenting information about an ice-breaker as a specialized boat equipped for various types of ice-breaking operations in order to provide navigation in frozen water bodies in a simple form. Student of Chelyabinsk’s Secondary School No.3, Mikhail Anfimov, thoroughly studied all materials and said that short video lectures that contain experiments are interesting to watch, and presented in them material is easy to memorize.

The team of the educational project is making grandiose plans for the next year. According to Elena Kolmychevskaya, Head of the “Children’s Internet University” Education Center, school students will see new scientific-and-popular lectures, projects in cooperation with enterprises and organizations of the South Ural, and entertaining contests.
