Aleksei Ivanov: how to become a professional?
Aleksandr Grigorievich’s grandson, Aleksei Ivanov, has been working at South Ural State University for about 15 years. At the present time, Aleksei Evgenievich is a Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of the Department for research, author of more than 100 research articles and 3 monographs. Besides, he is advisor of Director General of Avuar Audit Company which is a long-term partner of the university:
“Practical lessons on many disciplines at SUSU are taught by practicing accountants and auditors from Avuar Company, and our lecturers, in turn, take part in auditing inspections of the Company. It is a very interesting experience which helps students and lecturers of the Department to learn about latest changes taking place in accountants’ work,” notes Aleksei Evgenievich. “In the nearest future, we are planning to open a joint laboratory of accounting and analysis. Avuar is the author of innovative project entitled ‘Geniuses’ Headquarters’, using which a businessman can remotely manage accounting documents with the use of his smart phone. In this laboratory, our students will learn about the process of remote operation of a modern accountant.”
Besides, the Department of Accounting, Analysis and Audit is taking part in creating new federal standards of accounting, which none of other accounting departments of Russian universities does. This is a unique project that distinguishes our university’s scientists from many other specialists in this sphere, as Aleksei Evgenievich thinks. In his opinion, connection with practice is an important component in activity of an economist.
“This profession values precision, diligence and, no matter how strange it sounds for non-accountants, creativity. The latest one is important, because if you start thinking mechanically and narrow-mindedly, you become the first candidate for quitting the profession. It’s not a secret that lately mass media has been actively discussing the opinion that accountants soon will be replaced by robots. But as a rule, this opinion is expressed by non-professionals who barely know anything about modern accounting. In fact, the most important role in our work belongs to professional evaluation, and not always there is an algorithm that can be taught to a robot. A true accountant is not a computer operator but an architect of financial structure of an enterprise and a major provider of information necessary for managerial decision making. Computerization does not replace an accountant, only sufficiently simplifies his work: there is less routine work and more time for analytical work.”
