Senior lecturer of the SUSU Department of Foreign Languages, coordinator of the academic programs of the Office of Academic Writing, lecturer of courses on academic writing Ekaterina Nenakhova took part in a two-day training session on the development of professional competences in academic writing.
The training session was held at National University of Science and Technology MISiS (Moscow) April 24th and 26th of 2018. The event was organized for teachers of English for Professional Purposes, leaders and tutors of writing centers, editors, researchers, postgraduate students, and anyone who is interested in this topic.
Throughout the training session, the participants took part in the following master classes:
- Academic Writing Workshop for EAP teachers, teacher trainers, and academic researchers (M. Sidury Christiansen): “Love Grows Form Sight”: Writing Effective Titles and Abstracts for Publication and Conference Presentations.
- Springer Nature Workshop for EAP teachers, teacher trainers, and academic researchers (Daria Iovcheva): "How to Improve the Impact of your Research".
- Writing Centers Seminars for directors of writing centers, writing tutors, EAP teachers (M. Sidury Christiansen) "A Linguistic Crutch or a Tool? Uses of L1 in Academic Writing and Where it Fits in the Philosophy of WCs".
The training session was organized by the National University of Science and Technology MISiS in partnership with the National Consortium of Writing Centers Association of Experts in Academic Writing, and the academic publisher Palgrave Macmillan. The master classes were held by specialists in academic writing Martha Sidury Christiansen (PhD), researcher in the field of sociolinguistics and applied linguistics from the University of Texas San Antonio (USA), and Darya Iovcheva, Senior Licensing Manager for Springer Nature in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia.
