The 8th Annual City Mini Football Tournament among National Youth Teams was held at the Central Stadium of Chelyabinsk on May 12th. More than 20 teams took part in the tournament, including a SUSU team of students from Arab countries.
22 teams of players aged 18 to 30 fought for the championship cup. Players of 28 nationalities participated: teams with young people from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bashkortostan, Belarus, Tatarstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Chechnya; a team of representing Dagestan; and a team of cadets from the Chelyabinsk Higher Military Red Banner Secondary School of Flight Navigators.
The tournament began with group matches, after which the semifinal games were held. South Ural State University students from Arab countries showed good results throughout the games and took the 2nd place.
“I really liked participating in this tournament because it was an entertaining and interesting event for international students. I was happy with the organization of the tournament and, of course, I was happy that we took second place. I myself play football almost every day, so I was ready for the tournament,” says Master’s student of the first year of studies from ISTS Ahmed Vaad.
According to the organizers, the main goal of the tournament is the harmonization of national and international (interethnic) relationships, and social and cultural adaptation and integration of migrants in Chelyabinsk.
