Sing about War, Dance about War: Victory Waltz Was Held at SUSU

Shortly before one of the main holidays in our country, the Great Victory Day, the annual Victory Waltz has been held, in which students and employees of South Ural State University took part. This dance flashmob dedicated to the 73rd Anniversary of the Great Victory was held for the fourth time already.

The guests and participants were greeted by the SUSU Rector Aleksandr Shestakov.

“Victory Waltz is one of the most important and warm events, which is being held at our university for the fourth time now. Every year the number of participants grows, and this year it includes 120 couples, not only from our university, but also from other universities, as well as some people who have already graduated. This Waltz is a tribute to the memory of those young people who because of the war did not have time to study or to love, and did not live to see the victory,” says Aleksandr Leonidovich.

Victory Waltz is a symbol of generations, countries, and peoples uniting for the sake of peace on our planet. This is a gift for our whole city. This year more than 300 grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the victors’ were waltzing to show that they will always remember and will be forever grateful. Besides students from the Faculty of Military Education and the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, representatives of all the institutes and schools were participating, as well as Cadets from Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya Secondary General School No.6 of the city of Chelyabinsk, and from Secondary General School No.98.

This campaign has become a good tradition at SUSU, and for many students it was not the first time that they were taking part in the event.

“Everything went really great, even better than at the rehearsals. A very good tradition has formed at our university – to dance this waltz before the Victory Day. We were not just dancing, but we tried to feel like those who were returning home back in 1945, and like those who spent so much time waiting for them,” share SUSU students Oles Bykov and Aleksandra Yuzhakova.

Another participant of the event was the military band of Chelyabinsk Higher Military Red Banner Secondary School of Flight Navigators.

“Traditionally brass bands were always performing marches and waltzes. At all times waltzes have been popular, as they sounded so beautiful when played by a brass band, and due to the couples swaying around a dance floor. During war time waltzes were a way to remember the peaceful times. Their moves were passed down from one generation to another at the times of peace. So, who else but a brass band should play a Victory Waltz,” notes the leader of the orchestra Yury Minin.

Among the audience were those to whom we should say thank you from the bottom of our hearts, those whose heroic act will forever be in everyone’s heart – the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and homefront workers.

“Victory Day is a holiday celebrated by the whole country, and the brass band plays waltzes; Victory Day is a holiday of grey hair of our great-grandfathers, grandfathers, and people who were very young back then. Even those who did not see war were affected by it. This is a very important date for the whole of Russia. I would like to congratulate all the young people of the university, who performed the waltz, and those who prepared this event. I am very grateful that you preserve this memory. It is a pleasure for me to attend your celebrations every year. I’m overwhelmed with pride for modern young people. Thank you for this festive event,” shares widow of a disabled war veteran Iraida Mikhailovna Mozgovaya.
