On April 3 of 2018, results of the IoT Samsung Academy contest for opening education centers were summarized, an by the results SUSU was granted the right to open a unique training laboratory for studying IoT technologies (IoT is for Internet of Things) on its grounds on the basis of solutions of Samsung Company, the world’s leader in the sphere of information technology and radio electronics. On the platform of this Laboratory, SUSU students majoring in engineering specialties will get the opportunity to complete full-time and free-of-charge education in the most in-demand nowadays IoT technologies.
When choosing partner universities, the range of specialties and areas of study where the topic of Internet of Things is to be in-demand, the expected number of involved students, and qualification of teaching staff were taken into account. The experience of SUSU’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in this area, its successful research and teaching activity, and industrial potential of the region allowed SUSU to perform well in this contest.
Training of specialists in the sphere of industrial Internet of Things under support of Samsung is to be launched at SUSU from September of 2018. Students of engineering specialties will get the possibility to complete free education in well-demanded technologies. In the education process, resource materials and laboratory equipment developed by experts of the Samsung Research Center will be used. Practical training of students will be conducted on the basis of apparatus complexes for rapid prototyping of IoT devices with Samsung ARTIK microcomputers, sensors and wireless communication modules.
The year-long program of IoT Samsung Academy is built on studying real-life industrial cases on implementation of Internet of Things technologies in the first semester, and on creating prototypes of IoT devices in the second semester. Practical work is the foundation of the entire course. At the end of the course, all students will present their inventions at the contest of student projects, where they will be evaluates by the Company’s experts.
Approach to IoT Samsung Academy is implementation of project approach to education, which will allow SUSU students to get submerged into the world of Internet of Things from the first year of their study.
