Flights will Become Safer: Aircraft Engine of New Generation Gets Improved at the Center of Computer Engineering

A joint project realized in collaboration with the Perm Engines UEC is nearing its completion. The project started in August and is dedicated to developing a method of choosing optimal geometric parameters which ensure longevity of combustion chamber casing of an aircraft gas-turbine engine. And this means that flights of Russian aviation will become safer.

Several research teams of the university are simultaneously involved in the work: the Center of Computer Modeling, the Department of Engineering Mechanics under leadership of Sergey Sapozhnikov, and the SUSU Center of Supercomputer Modeling. Calculations and testing are performed under supervision of the Head of Department for the CCE Development Alexander Shakirov.

The general supervisor of the project, SUSU Vice-rector of Strategic Development Andrey Keller, while assessing its significance, emphasizes that students and postgraduates get involved into research and calculations of the combustion chamber casing of an aircraft gas-turbine engine. And this is especiallyimportant.

“In such projects, students and postgraduates obtain the experience of engineering modeling, and in a perspective can count on employment either to the CCE or to the partner enterprises,” notes Andrey Vladimirovich.

When performing research and calculations, the Center of Computer Engineering actively cooperates with the Advance Engineering Company in Yekaterinburg. Together they solve various research problems, in particular, the use of pSEVEN external optimizer. The Center of Computer Engineering is planning on continuing its work for implementing new methods of assessment of technical durability of aircraft engines’ combustion chamber casing based on the developed methods.
