“You’re Who We Need!”: Job Fair Gathers More than 100 Companies

On October 17th a job and education fair was held at the Megapolis exhibition center as well as the round table entitled Meeting the Needs of the Chelyabinsk Region’s Economy with Labor Resources in which SUSU representatives participated.

More than 100 businesses and organizations presented their vacancies at the job fair. Among them were such giants as ChTZ-Uraltrak OOO, Chelyabinskiy Metallurgicheskiy Kombinat PAO, Hlebprom OAO, and many more. More than 600 vacancies overall were presented to South Ural region residents. As the organizers of the exhibition stated, the most in-demand vacancies were the blue collar jobs as well as the engineering and medical areas.

“The job fair is an effective event for our citizens to find a job. Once every few months, we organize meetings between employers and specialists, the result of which is effective partnership. The fall exhibition is no exclusion,” noted the Director of the Chelyabinsk Job Center, Aleksandr Shegurov.

Within the job fair, a round table entitled Meeting the Needs of the Chelyabinsk Region’s Economy with Labor Resources was also held. The subject of discussion was the lack of qualified labor resources and the work of higher education institutions in finding work for their graduates.

According to the statistics noted in the round table, the most in-demand professions in 2017 in Russia were IT specialists, engineers, and teachers. The technical industries – construction, mechanical engineering, and others are experiencing a shortage of highly qualified workers. The leader of the Regional Job Center for Graduates of Higher Education Institutions, head of the SUSU Department of Academics and Methodology, Sergey Koval, shared possible solutions to this problem.

“Without a doubt we need education that is targeted at practical training. Universities should keep up with the times and work with businesses and their needs in mind. Close contact is needed between the educational organization and the companies providing jobs to graduates. Our overall goal is to reduce the time that college graduates spend looking for work,” notes Koval.

The job fair directly solves the issue noted by Sergey Koval – attendees of the job fair were able to find out about vacancies, speak with employers, a complete several preliminary interviews at one place, saving themselves time.
