On Friday, September 1, a business meeting of the Rector of SUSU Alexander Shestakov and Sir Malcolm Grantwas held in London. Mr. Grant is the Chairman of the National Health Service of England, Chancellor of the University of York, and a member of the Council for enhancing competitiveness of the leading Russian universities in the frameworks of Project 5-100.
The main topic of the two parties’ meeting was perspectives of development of the SUSU School of Medical Biology . After having reviewed a presentation of SUSU’s research areas, Sir Malcolm Grant shared his idea of the further SMB’s development. For instance, Mr. Grant approved interdisciplinary research orientation of the School’s scientists, and the chosen object of research – the study of stress, one of the most topical issues of the modern world.
According to Mr. Grant, under conditions of necessity for rational financing of scientific discoveries, an efficient strategy of development will become the association of scientists of different research areas in the frameworks of studying one urgent problem. In this regard, the School of Medical Biology could gain profit by attracting scientists in the field of liberal arts, engineering and computer technology to studying the problem of stress.
On Monday, September 4, the Rector of SUSU Alexander Shestakov discussed the development strategy with Director of the School of Medical Biology Vadim Tseylikman.
