A ceremony to award degrees to graduates of the academic programs of the Open University of Great Britain was held at the university.
The deputy consul general of Great Britain Matthew Osborne came to the South Ural region’s largest university to hold this ceremony. The representative of “Foggy Albion” also held a work meeting with the university rector, Alexander Shestakov.
Within the meeting, the university head talked about the multi-year cooperation between SUSU and organizations from Great Britain. In particular, the rector more thoroughly elucidated his visit to Oxford University. The result of that trip should be the three-sided cooperation between SUSU, Oxford University, and the Emerson corporation.
In turn, the deputy general consul reminded attendees that 2017 was named the bilateral Year of Science and Education in Russia and Great Britain, and stressed that he is ready to help aid the realization of this project in any way he can.
“We are ready to support projects which found scientific and academic ties between our countries. For example, we are actively implementing the Research Café format, in which we bring leading Great Britain researchers to Russia to hold lectures. One more joint project is being realized with the scientific journal Nature. Specialists from this journal are also ready to come and hold 2-3 day training sessions for all those who wish to join. I think that South Ural State University will take active part in realizing these areas of our work,” noted Matthew Osborne.
After completing their work meeting, rector Alexander Shestakov and the deputy general consul took part in a ceremony to award degrees to graduates of the academic programs of the Open University of Great Britain, which is realized in Chelyabinsk together with SUSU.
Before the beginning of the ceremony, Matthew Osborn offered the graduates some words of greeting, “I’m very happy that you chose the Great Britain academic system to continue your education. I can say confidently that this system is valued all around the world and helps millions of people uncover their potential and fulfill themselves in their profession. I hope that the courses you completed were difficult enough, interesting, and were worth your attention. I’m sure that the knowledge you acquired will help you in your future development.”
The deputy consul general of Great Britain personally handed the graduates their degrees from the Open University academic programs.
