Arabian Fairytale At The University: SUSU Celebrated Arab Culture Day

 

On April 6, South Ural State University celebrated the Arab Culture Day, in which students from Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Jordan and Syria took part.

The event was organized by SUSU International Affairs Division. Nadezhda Gulchak, Director of the Expert Center of the International Affairs Division told us about the event organization:

“This event – The Arab Culture Day – is to be held for the second time. But it is the first time that the celebration is so massive. Iraq ambassador in the Russian Federation came to visit our university, and our Rector and Vice-Rectors are also going to be present.”

Viktor Katochkov, the Vice-Rector for International Activity, presented a celebratory speech. He congratulated the guests and students on the event and said that such events are held frequently at the university and help students get better acquainted.

Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation Haidar Mansour Hadi also delivered a celebratory speech.

Students from Arabian countries at SUSU are studying Russian, obtaining majors and even scientific degree. A student from Iraq, Ali, shared his impressions:

“I participated in organization. Because today is a holiday! I like studying at SUSU. I’m getting Bachelor’s degree in the specialty Engineer-Programmer. After graduation I am planning to stay in Russia, because I like this country, people here are very good.”

International students introduced the audience to architecture and art of their countries, showed them the most famous sights and ancient cities. For example, the Old City of Sana'a in Yemen, which was established back in the 1st century AD, and whose appearance has been saved intact; the Statue of Saladin in Syria, the Law Codes of Hammurabi in Iraq and the King Hussein Mosque in Jordan. All these presentations were accompanied by Arabian songs, dances and poems about their motherland.

National anthem of the United Arab Emirates sounded at the end of the event. And Uralskoye Razdolye dancing group from the South Ural State University performed as a present for guests and students.
