On December 15th, South Ural State University took 13th place out of 89 in the category "classic university" in the Russian National University Ratings, which shows their demand from the Russian economy. The short list of universities was presented by the Social Navigator project of the international informational agency Russia Today.
446 universities from 82 of the country’s regions entered the study. The universities were rated by such criteria as employer demand for trained specialists, commercialization of intellectual property developed by the university, and the demand of research projects.
Governmental, industrial, municipal, and private universities who train staff in main and continuing higher-education programs were included in the ratings for demand. Among them: 132 engineering institutions, 89 classical universities, 57 agricultural institutions, 53 management institutions, 68 humanitarian institutions, and 47 medical institutions.
In the opinion of Nataliya Tyurina, head of Social Navigator project of the international news agency Russia Today, this research is of real interest to both employers and young students who are making their academic choices based on an idea of where they will be working after finishing their education.
The research showed that it is possible at this time to receive an education in Russia’s regions that is no less in-demand than education in the capital. In addition, according to Nataliya Tyurina, in the current conditions, universities must, on the one hand, turn as much as they can to the labor market and employers, and on the other hand must develop serious, professionally-oriented work with their older students.
