On Tuesday, September 27th, South Ural State University attended a delegation for the company Emerson, a leader in the area of system automation in industry and a long-time strategic partner to the university. As part of this business meeting, representatives of the company discussed directions for collaboration with the university.
One of SUSU and Emerson’s key projects is the development of automated control systems for businesses which are based on database mining. Such an approach reduces possible critical situations in manufacturing to a minimum.
“The main idea of the project is that by using the same terabytes of data being gathered from smart sensors today, it would be possible to build models to determine the quality of manufacturing processes and the performance of manufacturing equipment, and to predict instrument failure and performance decrease,” explains Gleb Radchenko, director of the SUSU Higher School of Electronics and Computer Sciences.
The partnership between SUSU and the Emerson corporation has existed for 10 years already. Primarily, of course, this partnership opens up a range of opportunities for post-graduates and researchers working in this area. However, students are not forgotten.
“We constantly hire professionals, the best students. We have a system of grants for them. Without question, SUSU is the breeding ground for the best specialists in the region,” says Sergey Mishin, director of the Department of Solutions and Service for the Emerson company.
In the future, a second visit is planned in which a SUSU delegation will go to the company’s location.
