On the 5th of February South Ural State University celebrates the Day of Russian Science. This significant for the University day was opened by the exhibition of the results of scientific and technical developments of SUSU, where more than 50 expositions were presented: starting from anatomical insoles and titanic bioimplants of craniofacial bone to new diesel engines valves, systems of automatic inflation of the tyres and equipment of speed charge of automobile accumulators.
The representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Chelyabinsk region, local Committee on Educational Affairs, Legislative Assembly of the region, as well as partner enterprises of the University, such as Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant, ‘Management Systems’ Russian Instrument Making Corporation, ‘Ural Engineering Center’ Holding Company presented at this event.
We would like to remind that South Ural State University was selected for the participation in the 5-100 project on competitiveness growth in the number of the best universities of the country. Now the University faces new task:
“Participating in this project we tend to become a global leader in the field of education and science. This requires significant increase of level and broadness of scientific researches, significant improvement of the quality of educational process. Today we are already among the best universities of the Russian Federation. But we allot a task to become like this among the world universities,” tells the Rector of SUSU Aleksandr Shestakov.

In order to implement this task SUSU already works actively. The significance and applicability of scientific projects of the University can be estimated by the level of presented developments. The major part of exhibit items is implemented according to the import substitution program: “Lastochka” ES2G electric train mask, which one day was purchased in Siemens factory, cabins of crane tower which were produced by our University for factories of Liebherr German company in Russia and others. The development of radio-beacon complex of the landing system for aerodrome with composite land topography surpassing foreign analogs in fineness attracts special attention:
“It provides landing of an airplane when there is a zero visibility and bad meteorological conditions. When an airdrome is drifted with snow and its height is over 20 sm, foreign systems of landing don’t work, and our system works”, says Aleksandr Shestakov
The major part of the exhibition includes the works on energy saving, which allow managing properly heat and electricity both in the scale of a certain building and the whole city. Their use makes a significant economic effect. The University together with partner companies is working on the projects such as energy-efficient cars of the new generation (with Uralmash, Ekaterinburg), urban street lighting control intelligent system, energy-saving automatic system for oil production (without the involvement of human labor), and more. Most developments are in the process of implementation in the real production of the partner universities. However, SUSU gradually goes to the level of work not only with factories and enterprises, but with federal and international corporations as well.
The highlight of the exhibition was the robot-tour guide that moved freely around the room, talking to everyone about the University and got others familiar with the major achievements of the South Ural State University.
It is planned that in future the exhibition will operate continuously and be supplemented with new exhibit items - development prototypes.
The Scientific Forum will last for a week. During this time, the University will host a large-scale scientific conference of post-graduate and doctoral students. There will be selection of promising projects for participation in the "U.M.N.I.K" project (a grant of 400 thousand rubles for 2 years on the development of innovative project). For the first time in the University "Foresight is the Method of Active Prognostics" business game for PhDs will be organized and at the end of the program the regional scientific youth business school will open its doors.
