“Artificial Intelligence Gives Chances to Move the World Forward”: Lecture by Andrey Masalovich Held at SUSU

An open lecture by a Russian scientist, professor and IT specialist in the field of Information Security Andrey Masalovich, who is also an expert in competition reconnaissance and is known as KiberDed (CyberOldie) blogger, has been held at South Ural State University.

The lecture’s topic was “Mathematicians, the Stage Is Yours! 20 Urgent Problems of AI”. In his speech, the expert highlighted the key challenges related to the development and implementation of artificial intelligence: technical, ethical, legal and social problems. Andrey Masalovich stressed that the majority of these issues are caused by the fundamental limitations of the technology itself, many of which are still unsolved and require active involvement of the scientific community.

“I’ve been studying artificial intelligence for 35 years now, and in this lecture I explain that it will not solve our problems, but will rather provide people (mostly students, young people and scientists) with chances to move the world forward,” noted Andrey Masalovich.

This event brought together students, teaching staff members, and young researchers interested in artificial intelligence development, data analysis, and modern digital technologies.

Andrey Masalovich shared on the key challenges that the artificial intelligence industry faces today. The expert paid special attention to the issues of security in neural networks and data reliability.

“It’s a piece of cake not to fall a victim to criminals or fraudsters. First, do not pick up the phone. Second, come up with a code phrase with which you could verify that you are indeed speaking to a person you know. And the most important thing is keep alert,” the speaker emphasized.

SUSU students asked the speaker questions regarding the development of digital technologies, career prospects in Information Security, and the use of artificial intelligence in various industries.

“It was a really interesting lecture. Today the issues of cyber security are especially relevant, taking into consideration the insufficient protection of data in many digital services and applications. It was insightful, and we learned more about the principles of work of artificial intelligence and the risks related to it. I believe that such meetings are truly important: they not only help better understand how we can protect our personal data on the Internet, but also get us thinking about security in real life, too,” shared SUSU student Viktoriia Zaitseva.

Such meetings with leading Russian specialists help SUSU students learn about the current trends in the IT industry, gain practical knowledge directly from experts, and expand their professional competences in the field of modern technologies.

In addition, our university’s guest visited the SUSU Analytical Centre (Centre for Geopolitics, Analytics, and International Relations Research) opened several months ago and laid a foundation for further collaboration between our university and the Government of the Chelyabinsk Region.
