Science Record Holders: Aleksandr Shestakov, Irina Potoroko, Maksim Grigoryev

Winners in the “Leader in Scientists Training” category are: SUSU President Aleksandr Shestakov, Director of the SUSU School of Medical Biology Irina Potoroko and Head of the Department of Electric Drive, Mechatronics and Electromechanics Maksim Grigoryev.

Professor Aleksandr Shestakov is the author of more than 200 scientific papers and 13 inventions, and chairs two dissertation councils at South Ural State University. He acted as a research advisor for 17 dissertations for Candidate of Sciences degree and 3 dissertations for Doctor of Sciences degree, which were successfully defended. Based on the university’s advanced research studies, up-to-date Master’s degree programmes in “Artificial Intelligence”, “Digital Industry”, “Composite Materials”, and “Energy-saving Technologies” were launched.

2005 through 2022, Professor Aleksandr Shestakov headed South Ural State University in the position of a rector. Over that period, our university demonstrated brilliant results in scientific and technological activities, and initiated joint cross-disciplinary projects with major industrial partners from Russia and around the world.

In 2015, thanks to the leadership of Aleksandr Shestakov, South Ural State University became the winner in Program 5-100 contest for competitiveness enhancement at the international educational and scientific space. And in 2021, our university became the participant of the Priority 2030 program for government support and development of universities, in the category of national research universities.

At present, Professor Aleksandr Shestakov is the President of South Ural State University, acts as the Chairman of the Council of Rectors of the Ural Federal District, the Chairman of the Chelyabinsk Region Council of University Rectors, and is the Vice-President of the Russian Rectors’ Union.

Director of the SUSU School of Medical Biology Irina Potoroko studies innovative technologies in food production and the use of sonochemistry effects in food production. In addition, Professor Irina Potoroko is engaged in the research of the electrophysical effects in food production and detoxication of food products.

Maksim Grigoryev, Head of the SUSU Department of Electric Drive, Mechatronics and Electromechanics, is the Chief Researcher at the Research and Innovation Services, Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), and Professor. His research interests focus on the development of intelligent control systems for drive systems of mechatronic devices and robotic complexes. Specific attention is paid to improving the accuracy, adaptivity and energy efficiency of drives in case of fluctuating loads and external influences.
