“Real Men Play Hockey” as the Song Goes: Polytechnic Ice Hockey Club Continues Home Winning Streak in Student Ice Hockey League Championship

Polytechnic Ice Hockey Club of South Ural State University is enjoying a bright and intense home series of games in the Student Ice Hockey League Championship. On February 2nd, a match between Polytechnic (SUSU) and Burevestnik from Tomsk took place at the Traktor Ice Hockey Academy.

The match was opened by the Rector of South Ural State University Alexander Wagner, who performed the ceremonial puck drop. In his welcoming speech, the Rector noted that the game held special significance for him:

“I am very pleased to welcome the teams on this ice as part of the Student Ice Hockey League Championship. This match is truly warm and special for me: I am originally from Tomsk, so I am especially happy to welcome the players of the Burevestnik team. I am sincerely proud of our student team, Polytechnic of South Ural State University. Our hockey players demonstrate a high level of training and rightfully rank among the leaders of the Student Ice Hockey League's Eastern Conference. I wish both teams good luck, a bright and dynamic game, positive emotions, and most importantly, an injury-free match.”

The game against Burevestnik became the third match of the home series for Polytechnic. Earlier, the SUSU team had secured two confident victories over Lokomotiv-SGUPS. Despite a tight game schedule and accumulated fatigue, the Chelyabinsk team showed a determined winning attitude from the very first minutes.

The match unfolded in a tense and fierce struggle. Both teams played tightly, refusing to give ground. In the first period, Polytechnic opened the scoring and doubled its advantage closer to the buzzer. The first period ended 2:0 in favour of the home team.

In the second period and early in the third, Burevestnik increased the pace and imposed its style of play. The Tomsk team managed to equalize the score and then take the lead. However, Polytechnic demonstrated character and strong will. The Chelyabinsk players turned the tide of the game and scored two decisive goals, securing a 4:3 victory.

“The game was not easy. We opened the scoring and controlled the initiative for much of the match, but the opponent showed character, imposed a tough fight, and managed to take the lead. What matters is that our players did not give up, showed determination, equalized the score, and brought the game to victory. Such matches are an important part of team development; they must be experienced. I would like to thank the players for their dedication and attitude. Today everyone understood that nothing comes easy in hockey — results are achieved only through hard work, discipline, and effort,” said the head coach of Polytechnic Artyom Pletnev.

Thanks to this success, Polytechnic Ice Hockey Club climbed to second place in the Student Ice Hockey League's Eastern Conference, confirming its status as one of the championship leaders.

“For a long time, I could not convert my chances, but fortunately everything has worked out today. The team managed to improve its offense, press the opponent, and secure a win in regulation time. In the previous two matches, I failed to score despite having good chances — hitting the posts and crossbar. Today I managed to capitalize on my opportunities, and I am very happy about that, and doubly happy about the victory,” shared Polytechnic forward Leonid Kulishov.

On February 3rd at 11:00, the teams will meet again on the ice of the Traktor Ice Hockey Academy (39 Akademik Makeev Street). Admission is free.

We invite everyone to come and support the Polytechnic hockey team as the home series continues. Fans are an essential part of every victory.
