Unity in Diversity: SUSU Students Learn about the Traditions of Russia’s Peoples

International students of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications of South Ural State University took part in the final event of the “IMAGE of Russia: Traditions of Many Nations as the Cultural Code of Each One of Us” project, implemented by the Chelyabinsk Region branch of the “Assembly of the Peoples of Russia” All-Russian Public-State Organization with the support from the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.

The project aims to demonstrate that Russia’s cultural code is formed by traditions of the many peoples living in our country. The event is aimed at popularizing scientific knowledge about the traditional cultures of the peoples of the South Ural region among students of universities of the Chelyabinsk Region.

“The event has become a wonderful opportunity to touch upon the diversity of cultural traditions of the Ural region. It has reminded us how rich and unique the culture of each people living in Russia is, and how important it is to preserve and pass it on to future generations. This kind of event helps strengthen the sense of unity and mutual respect. Thank you very much to the event organizers for such an interesting program! It was exciting to see how different peoples live together and preserve their traditions. I really enjoyed learning new things. Special thanks for the warm atmosphere and good mood,” shared SUSU student Maisa Dzhomartova.

The project wrapped up with a vibrant celebration. The students sang ditties, danced in a circle, and performed the popular Katyusha song together. They learned about the national songs and dances of various Ural peoples and also tasted herbal teas and bread rings.
