SUSU Legal Scholar Spoke as Expert at the Belt and Road Forum in Guangzhou

Elizaveta Gromova, Deputy Director for International Affairs of the SUSU Institute of Law, attended a meeting of experts from the BRICS Cooperation Committee, operating within the BRICS Arbitration Court in Guangzhou, China.

This time, members of the expert committee were invited to a forum on the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, dedicated to investment, dispute resolution, and risk minimization for Chinese companies in international business along the Eurasian-African corridor.

The forum, held from November 17th through 23rd in Dongguan, was international in nature, bringing together representatives from Russia, Brazil, Egypt, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Elizaveta Gromova presented a report on the creation of effective China-Russia special economic zones, as well as on the prospects for developing a model for BRICS special economic zones.

The experts also visited Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, one of China's leading dispute resolution centres.

At the Arbitration Commission, guests were introduced to cutting-edge technologies used for dispute resolution and were informed about the specifics of alternative dispute resolution in China.

"China impressed me with its combination of traditions and technologies: robots are excellent at deliveries, and the facial recognition system at Guangzhou Airport helps ensure security," Elizaveta Gromova shared her impressions. "At the same time, Guangzhou is currently preparing for Catholic Christmas, and traditional food and numerous palaces and gardens preserved from the ancient times create an atmosphere of peace and harmony."

Elizaveta Gromova has been an active expert on the BRICS International Cooperation Expert Committee within the BRICS Arbitration Court at the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission (China) for several years now, where she acts as a specialist on the legal regulation of digital technologies, as well as the creation, operation, and evaluation of special economic zones.
