The annual series of meetings with international students on issues relevant to their stay on the territory of the Russian Federation and internal regulations started at South Ural State University.
The first meeting was held for students from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
The Head of the International Student Support Dariia Korotkikh greeted the participants:
“On behalf of the SUSU International Office, I am happy to welcome you to our first annual information meeting. Today, we will discuss important aspects of your stay in the Russian Federation. We understand that you bear a great deal of responsibility, so it is important for you to be aware of some details of your stay in our country and at the university.”
The matters of compliance with immigration laws and amendments to Russian immigration laws, internal regulations, attendance, and dormitory accommodation are traditionally discussed at the meeting.
Deputy Vice-Rector for Education Andrey Kocherov addressed the students:
“I sincerely hope that we will make it through and you will obtain your diploma. You will represent your country as specialists who have completed their studies abroad; this is an honour. You are all students, and the purpose of your entry to our country is to study, so you are responsible for attending classes and for your academic performance.”
He also emphasized that education should always remain a priority. International students are not prohibited from finding a job, but their employment should not affect their academic performance. Furthermore, the Deputy Vice-Rector for Education touched upon the topic of moral and ethical standards and rules of conduct in society.
Liudmila Zadorina, Director of the Student Campus; Olga Veselova, Chief Physician of the SUSU Medical Centre; Svetlana Iudochkina, Head of the Extracurricular Activities Office; and Olga Fakhreeva, Head of the Immigration Services, were invited to participate in the meeting.
As part of the information day, university staff discussed with international students the specifics of migration legislation, the need for medical examinations, fingerprinting, and migration registration.
