SUSU Rector on the Results of the “Technological Leadership” Conference

Alexander Wagner and Director of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology and head of the second Strategic Technological Project on the “Fundamentals of the Synthesis and Operation of Non-conventional Materials” Mikhail Ivanov share their impressions from the events of the conference and talk about the future development of the university program under the Priority 2030 project.

“The Priority 2030 project is the main and crucial driver of changes at our university,” notes Alexander Wagner. “This development program fundamentally aims at an integrated transformation of our whole university. This covers all our fields of activity without exception. Today we are making real steps towards improving the quality of the results of our research and educational activities, and are putting our focus on strong research teams and on self-identification of the whole team in general.”

The Rector draws the attention to the fact that over the period of five years our university has indeed managed to demonstrate good dynamics in its development. Proof of that are both our standing in international rankings, and the annual growth of the popularity of our university with applicants. And of course, all our students, scientists and teaching staff members note this progress.

“I believe that an important result of the path that we have covered is the deep understanding of the strategy and tactics of the further development and throwing all of the SUSU resources on achieving the technological leadership, in particular, in the field of intelligent manufacturing.”

Mikhail Ivanov adds that he believes that the essence of the concept of technological leadership of a university is its capability to make end products out of the ideas that scientists come up with. University should work jointly with leaders of the key industries in the region. Within the frameworks of the technological leadership program, the university should promote its products on the global market. The most important thing is that new and active young teams must grow at the university. These are the teams of people with a new type of thinking.

“Namely for the universities participating in the Priority 2030 project, new grants are introduced for various stages of development that will help go all the way to the end product. Those differ from the usual format as they require the evaluation with regard to the commercialization on the market and the marketing research, as well as the co-funding from industry at the high stages of product readiness. At the start of research, it is crucial to understand who may be interested in your product and what its real market prospects are.”
