South Ural State University organized a presentation of the Heirs or Renegades. The State and Law of the Thaw Period of 1953–1964 book by the State Duma Deputy, Doctor of Sciences (Law) Pavel Krasheninnikov. This is the eighth book in a series about the history of the Russian state and law from Kievan Rus to the present day.
The presentation was attended by the SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner, students and staff of our university, as well as honoured guests, including the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler. Before the event, the author personally presented his work to the head of our region.
The presentation was hosted by the Director of the SUSU Institute of Law Elena Titova, who noted that Pavel Krasheninnikov is a legendary man, an outstanding politician, a wise and experienced statesman, who had made a huge contribution to the development of the legal system of the Russian Federation, an outstanding lawyer and a talented writer.
"Pavel Krasheninnikov is our fellow countryman, a resident of Magnitogorsk and he has been working in the State Duma for many years, forming the legislative foundations of the Russian law, participating in the work on amendments to the Constitution, as well as the development of key codes of our country. And this is a great achievement that we will appreciate for a very long time. I am glad and happy that our fellow countryman does not forget his small homeland," Alexey Texler noted in his welcoming speech. "We must know our history, it allows us to look to the future. Our state has been developing for thousands of years, and each era is important for creating our future."
This publication continues the author's cycle of research into key stages in the history of Russia in the 20th century. The book is dedicated to a turning point in the Soviet history: the "Thaw Period" after the death of Joseph Stalin. The author conditionally divides this stage into four chronological segments, each of which is revealed through the prism of the struggle for power, the transformation of the state structure and the evolution of the legal system.
"I want to convey to everyone that we have the right to know our history. It seems to me that the period from Stalin's death to the end of Khrushchev's rule is quite interesting, because it was then that a split in society occurred. At that time, they began to move away from repressions, Khrushchev made attempts to "revive" the society, although it did not work out very well. There were many positive moments in that period, but even more negative ones," said Pavel Krasheninnikov. "I think it is important for everyone who is interested to know who made such decisions and why. I tried to write my book not in dry legal language, but in a way that would be understandable."
The book is intended for historians, legal experts, students, and anyone interested in the history of the state and law of Russia. After the presentation and answers to the guests' questions, an autograph session took place, where the most devoted readers received a copy of the book with an autograph and a well-wishing from the author.
This was not the first time that SUSU acted as the main venue for the presentation of books by Pavel Krasheninnikov. Chelyabinsk, Magnitogorsk, and the Ural region are native places for the author, where he had spent his childhood, and where he returns with a special feeling.
