The SUSU Institute of Law is a modern law school that is developing and conducting research activities in Russia and abroad. It trains lawyers for business structures, law enforcement agencies, state and local government bodies, bar associations, prosecution offices and the judicial system. The Institute of Law consists of seven departments, Expert Technology Research and Education Centre, and Practical Jurisprudence Centre.
The SUSU Institute of Law offers Bachelor's, Specialist, Master's degree and postgraduate programmes. A number of them are unique, such as Engineering and Technical (Computer) Forensic Inquiry, or the Master's degree programme in Law and Digital Technologies.
This year, the following areas of study are available to applicants:
- 40.03.01 Jurisprudence (Bachelor's degree);
- 40.05.01 Legal Support of National Security (Specialist degree);

The Institute of Law is an institute of opportunities. During their training, students can acquire digital competencies and additional qualifications in the IT area by studying at the Digital Department within the framework of the “Development of the Personnel Potential in the IT Industry” federal project and the “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation” national program, or they can try themselves as technology entrepreneurs within the framework of the annual acceleration program.
At the Institute of Law, Bachelor’s degree students have the opportunity to obtain additional qualifications in Economics and Forensic Inquiry, and forensic experts have the opportunity to obtain additional qualifications as lawyers.
Students of the Institute of Law become prize winners and winners of all-Russian student Olympiads, laureates of international and all-Russian conferences.
The institute acts as a platform for holding major scientific events and attracts participants from leading universities in our country and abroad.
One such landmark event is the Y.D. Livshits Competition: a comprehensive science-to-practice event held in the format of a model trial process. Students, using their knowledge of current criminal and criminal procedure legislation, the practice of higher judicial bodies, defend their position in an adversarial process. The final of the competition is traditionally held in the Chelyabinsk Regional Court with the participation of professional judges.
The Institute of Law annually hosts conferences for young researchers, the largest of which is the “University Law Dialogues: Voice of the Youth” International Science-to-Practice Conference for Young Researchers.
The Institute of Law, as a place of attraction for famous practicing lawyers and outstanding legal scholars, is also a venue for open lectures. The Global Summer School on Law and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence is held here annually. This is a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of the trends in legal and ethical regulation of innovative technology, create an international and intercultural discussion platform, find important contacts and lay the foundation for building a career abroad, and receive an international certificate of attendance.
A graduate of the Institute of Law, Danil Karimov, has already managed to use this chance to gain international experience. After participating in two international law competitions and showing excellent academic performance, he received an offer to study in China and is now studying International Space and Air Law at one of China's leading universities.
Among the partners of the Institute of Law are local and state government bodies, the Arbitration Court of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Eighteenth Arbitration Court of Appeal, the Chelyabinsk Regional Court, the Federal Antimonopoly Service Administration for the Chelyabinsk Region, the Prosecutor's Office of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Ural Transport Prosecutor's Office, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Chelyabinsk Region, the Bar Association of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Office of the Governor and the Government of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region, and large business structures.
