According to the National University Ranking study, annually conducted by the Interfax Information Group, South Ural State University has taken the 32nd place in the composite 2025 ranking. SUSU holds the first place among universities in Chelyabinsk, and the second place among universities of the Ural Federal District in this composite ranking.
The 2025 survey includes 369 Russian universities. The ranking is performed against such criteria as Education; Research; Social Environment; Collaboration; Innovations and Entrepreneurship; and Brand.
For applicants and their parents, ranking is a convenient tool helping in selecting a university to enrol in. Factors that are currently important for them are strong science, internships, infrastructure, and employment after graduation.
The National University Ranking project is being implemented by the Interfax Group since 2010. Its main goal is the development of the mechanisms and procedures for an independent system of evaluation of Russian universities and their academic programmes, boosting the competitiveness of the Russian education system, scientific research and technological entrepreneurship, as well as development of regional and federal universities.
