New Horizons in Electronics and Computer Science: Where World-class Specialists Are Trained

Chelyabinsk applicants still have a chance to enrol in state-funded programmes.

Do you wish to develop your skills in the field of information technology? Are you interested in designing the latest technology, equipment, and control systems? Are you eager to learn more about the specifics of working with neural networks? Then you should enrol in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science of South Ural State University!

In 2025, the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science has won a grant to open a “Digital Ural” federal centre for training top specialists in the field of information technology.

At the centre, you will learn how to develop everything from simple software products to intelligent systems for industry.

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science offers training of Bachelors, Specialists, Masters and Candidates of Sciences in many fields, including instrumentation engineering, radio electronics, information and measuring equipment, control systems, computer systems, information security, computer science and information technology, intelligent data processing and artificial intelligence. Students develop piloting systems, create wireless sensors, implement smart manufacturing technologies, analyse big data and identify hidden patterns in them.

The SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science is divided into 4 departments:

  • Department of Automation and Control;
  • Department of Information-measuring Equipment;
  • Department of Radioelectronics and Communication Systems;
  • Department of Automatic Control Systems.

The SUSU “Digital Ural” centre is divided into 3 departments:

  • Department of Information Systems and Technologies;
  • Department of Information Security;
  • Department of Electronic Computers.

“Currently, the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science is a leader in training engineering personnel for the needs of the electronics industry and IT sphere. The school annually hosts many thematic events: Olympiads, programming contests, hackathons, job fairs. This is a centre of attraction for engineering personnel focused on the development and implementation of advanced technologies,” says Aleksandr Gollai, Director of the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science includes more than 30 laboratories of Russian and world production standards. All of them have unique equipment in the field of radioelectronics, control systems, automation equipment and electronic computing systems. The most famous of them are the Emerson Competence Centre, as well as the following laboratories: Samsung Internet of Things Academy Laboratory, Endress+Hauser Laboratory, Laboratory for Self-Validating Sensors, Systems, and Advanced Instrumentation, Supercomputer Simulation Laboratory.

The teaching staff of the school consists of more than 100 candidates and doctors of sciences. About 450 part-time and full-time students graduate annually.

The SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science has a minors program: a complex of three interrelated disciplines of the same profile, different from the main area of student’s training.

In addition, a Job Fair is regularly held for senior students, where they have an opportunity to meet company representatives in person and learn about the most interesting projects and employment terms.

Main employers include many well-known companies: Rosatom, Rostelecom, Gazprom, T2 Mobile, Intersvyaz, Russian Railways, Sberbank, Metran, ChTZ-Uraltrak, Academician V. P. Makeyev State Rocket Center (Miass), Scientific and Production Association of automatics named after academician N.A. Semikhatov (Ekaterinburg), Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – VNIITF (Zababakhin All-Russia Research Institute of Technical Physics) (Snezhinsk), Instrumentation Engineering Plant (Tryokhgorny), and more.

However, the school is distinguished not only by its professional activities, because students take part in and win all-Russian and international Olympiads and contests, participate in foreign schools and scientific conferences, hackathons and championships. These are events such as:

  1. Global Game Jam, a major world championship in simultaneous development of computer games.
  2. Annual programming championship held among students of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, where winners receive cash prizes and invitations to internships and work from leading IT companies in our region.
  3. School of Olympiad Programming, where students gain practical skills in competitive programming and prepare to defend the honour of the university at regional, all-Russian and international programming Olympiads.
  4. “Parallel Computational Technologies” Conference is a major international supercomputer conference in the CIS countries, in which leading Russian and foreign scientists in the field of supercomputer and distributed computing systems take part.
  5. TechConnect, a project by the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, aimed at developing the interaction between students and employers, within the frameworks of which hackathons and conferences are organized.

Graduates of the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science are competitive world-class specialists in the field of electronics, software engineering, information technology, control systems and radio electronics, able to solve the assigned tasks, and know how to use the latest, most relevant information technologies, radio electronics and control systems technologies.

In 2025, the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science provides 327 state-funded places for Bachelor’s and Specialist degree programmes and 120 for Master’s degree programmes.

The SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science is a driving force in the field of training personnel for high-tech sectors of the economy, the implementation of innovative educational and research programs, applied developments of the cutting-edge technology and equipment.
