On June 6th at 16:00, a “Jolly Fellows” concert by Igor Burko Ural Dixieland band will be held at the square in front of the main university building.
“Jolly Fellows” is both an allusion to the famous film starring Leonid Utyosov (famous Soviet singer and actor), and the best way to characterize the band’s lineup, who invariably charge their audience with positive vibes!
The spirit of optimism in the early Soviet jazz and in our favourite popular melodies is key to the successful concerts by the legendary Ural Dixieland band. And the band members feel confident that be that quick and slow foxtrots, melodic compositions about our home country, musical humoresques, lyrical ballads, or even pioneers’ songs — you can add jazz charm to almost any melody.
Ural Dixieland band was created in Chelyabinsk in 1969. It is for a reason considered to be one of the best jazz bands in our country, who play traditional jazz. The band members have beautifully mastered not only the dixieland style, but also a number of modern jazz styles: from mainstream and bebop to jazz rock and smooth jazz.
Over the years of its existence, the band has given concerts all across Russia and in the majority of European countries. Ural Dixieland band participates in the most prestigious Western jazz forums: North Sea Jazz Festival (the Netherlands), Brecon Jazz Festival (United Kingdom), and more. The geography of the band’s concert tours from 1989 through 1999 “covers” practically all of Europe, including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, England, Ireland, Denmark, Scotland, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Isle of Man. Professionals often mark the “authentic” New-Orleans sound of Ural Dixieland band and say that it is close to the traditions of this branch of early jazz.
The musicians are always happy to play showmen, sing, kid around and march.
Everyone is welcome to attend the concert, it will be fun and an unforgettable show!
