About 2025 Admissions Campaign: Innovations, State-funded Places and Popular Fields of Study

Iulia Bolotina, Head of the Office for Strategic Work with Applicants at South Ural State University (SUSU NRU), speaks about the key changes and features of this year's admissions campaign. In the interview, she in detail talks about the deadlines for submitting documents, new opportunities for applicants, the number of state-funded places, and the most popular areas of training.

– When will the start take place and what innovations can we expect this year?

– Among the innovations is the expansion of the list of individual achievements. Applicants who enrol in targeted training and who participated in the competitive events of the customer enterprise will receive additional 5 points. For the first time, achievements in supplementary education are also taken into account: applicants will be able to receive up to 5 points for a certain number of hours of programmes.

Also, applications for admission will be accepted starting from June 20th for state-funded and contract forms at all levels of education: secondary vocational education, Bachelor's degree, Specialist degree, Master's degree and postgraduate studies. From this year, applicants to secondary vocational education, Master's degree and postgraduate studies will be able to submit applications through the "Postupi Online" State Services (GosUslugi) portal.

Particular attention is paid to targeted training. SUSU has received more than 250 detailed targeted places, and other 100 are under consideration. From June 20th, applicants will be able to apply for targeted places through the "Jobs of Russia" (“Rabota Rossii”) portal. Offers from defence industry enterprises for targeted places will be available in the SUSU Admissions Committee, and anyone interested can get acquainted with them.

Every year SUSU provides applicants with discounts on tuition, and also allocates personal scholarships for students with high scores and winners, prize winners of Olympiads included in the federal list. In addition, various discounts and instalments are provided for applicants entering the contract form of study.

The rights for admission have been expanded for participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO) and their children. 10% of state-funded places in each training area have been reserved for them. These applicants can take internal exams instead of the Unified State Exam and participate in both the general competition and the competition for a separate, special and target quotas.

– How many state-funded places will there be?

– In 2025, 2463 state-funded places have been allocated for higher education programmes and 50 places for secondary vocational education programmes at the expense of the Chelyabinsk Region budget.

– Will there be new specialties this year?

- Yes, this year, admission to state-funded places in the "Biotechnology" Bachelor's degree programme is open. The field-oriented areas of existing programmes have also been updated, especially in the field of artificial intelligence.

– What areas of training are the most popular ones?

– Traditionally, engineering and IT areas are in high demand: “Information Security”, “Software Engineering”, “Automation of Technological Processes and Production”, “Mechatronics and Robotics”. Last year, interest increased in “Mechanical Engineering”, “Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering”, “Instrument Engineering” and the Specialist degree programmes “Design, Production and Operation of Rockets and Rocket-Space Complexes” and “Design of Aircraft and Rocket Engines”. Among the humanities areas, the leaders are “Economics”, “Business Informatics”, “Jurisprudence”, and “Linguistics”.
