Practical Training with Excellent Marks: Aerospace Students Take Internships at State Corporations

Whatever the students’ practical training, its goals always remain the expansion, systematization and consolidation of theoretical knowledge, acquired while studying academic disciplines, in the process of professional activity itself. The same goes for students at the Institute of Engineering and Technology of South Ural State University.

Every summer Aerospace Engineering students of the Institute of Engineering and Technology go to enterprises of such state corporations as ROSCOSMOS, ROSATOM, and ROSAVIATSIA. The geography is vast: from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Blagoveshchensk to the Fakel Design Bureau in Kaliningrad.

To date, more than 250 SUSU students majoring in Aerospace Engineering are mastering advanced methods of design, development and testing of aircrafts and their engines.

"One of the largest enterprises which we have been cooperating with for many years now is the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation. And from their third year of studies, our students have an opportunity to get acquainted with the main developer of Russian modules for the International Space Station. The company ensures their launch and efficient operation in orbit, as well as the launch of transport manned spacecraft of the Soyuz series and transport cargo spacecraft of the Progress series," notes Ekaterina Zarnitsyna, Deputy Director for Aerospace Engineering of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Practical training allows students, based on studying the actual activities of manufacturing enterprises in the aviation, and rocket and space industries, to master competencies in the field of future professional activity.

"I chose Energia Rocket and Space Corporation because it was very interesting to get to know about this famous enterprise and learn more about the process of manufacturing domestic spacecraft. We were shown an ultra-modern assembly shop, where cleanliness reigns, and launch vehicles that amaze with their complexity and engineering beauty. There was also an excursion to the museum, where many samples of spaceships and propulsion systems were exhibited. All our questions were answered in an accessible and understandable manner. All this made me very happy, and I was very pleased with the internship," Artem Artiukhov, student of group П-523, shares his impressions of the internship.

In addition, the internship sites for SUSU Aerospace Engineering students are such enterprises as the Academician V.P. Makeyev State Rocket Centre (Miass); JSC Raduga State Design Bureau (Dubna); A.M. Isayev Chemical Engineering Design Bureau, branch of Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center (Korolev); JSC Krasmash (Krasnoyarsk); JSC NPO Kurganpribor (Kurgan); NIIMash (Salda); JSC OKB Novator (Yekaterinburg); JSC UEC-Aviadvigatel (Perm); Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Russian Federal Nuclear Center – Zababakhin All-Russia Research Institute of Technical Physics" (Snezhinsk); JSC Ural Airlines (Yekaterinburg); and Yu.A. Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Training Center (Zvyozdny Gorodok).

Students take internships in July and August of each academic year.
