In 2021 SUSU began training managers and specialists for leading enterprises of the Ural region as part of the Ural Interregional Research and Education Centre (UIREC) project. 15 advanced training programmes were developed and tested. The Centre for Competence Development trains heads of laboratories and research and technical projects, and the educational platform offers training for specialists of high-tech enterprises being UIREC participants.
Blended learning format for high-level professionals
One of the key tasks of UIREC is to solve staffing needs of the Ural Federal District for modernization of the economy. Fifteen programmes developed for partner companies such companies as Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, AO NTC Konar, AO PG Metran, JSC R&DIME (Nizhnyaya Salda), PAO Kurganmashzavod, and OOO Privodnaya Tekhnika have been approved. Employees of any enterprises and private individuals can enter these programmes in order to increase their demand in the labour market.
The Russian industry faces a number of challenges; the key challenge is to build and maintain global competitiveness in the context of the technological revolution. There are windows of opportunity associated with the use of human capital and scientific advances to involve domestic companies in the knowledge-intensive links of value chains, modernization of facilities, optimization of production processes, and consolidation in new markets, including niche high-tech markets. Conditions to localize advanced technologies and improve professional and managerial competences should be created.
"Additional professional education is becoming practically uninterrupted. Mobile and intensive training courses of professional development and professional retraining in the framework of UIREC provide all specialists with an opportunity, without discontinuing their basic work, to acquire the necessary competences, without which it is difficult to remain successful in the rapidly updating world of technology, engineering, and production. The content of the programmes will be updated every year. By studying in our programmes developed in accordance with modern professional standards, students can be sure that they will obtain necessary and up-to-date knowledge that they really need in order to meet employer's requirements", says Irina Voloshina, Director of the SUSU Institute of Supplementary Education.
Taking into account the course attendees' workload at their main job, as well as the complicated situation with the coronavirus, the courses are conducted both in person and online. The SUSU Supplementary Education portal is used to hold online courses. This platform has all the necessary features for quality instruction and has already proven itself in the work.
"Course attendees receive authorized access to the course materials and can work independently with the materials at a time convenient for them. This schedule helps people organize online learning as efficiently as possible. Teachers are constantly available—they answer questions in the forums, hold consultations, check the tests, and give grades," explains Irina Voloshina.
Full-time classes are held in modern multimedia classrooms, and engineering programmes are fulfilled in scientific and educational centres equipped with unique modern equipment.
Wide range of programmes
The professional development programmes were elaborated taking into account the need to post relevant educational content which contributes to the expansion of competencies of students. In particular, they can learn advanced technologies and leading practices used in the priority sectors of the economy and relevant to the development strategies of UIREC.
