How can a university graduate find a good job? The Internet is replete with advice on how the former student, who has no experience, is able to get a job in a profession. South Ural State University is doing everything so that its graduates do not have to ask such a question. High-quality education, internship in the largest enterprises of the country are the things that a SUSU student can prove himself well with even before graduation and immediately get a dream job after his graduation.
The university has comprehensively organized work to assist in the employment of graduates. This activity has been carried out since the moment of vocational guidance of school graduates and lasts until the support of the career growth of young specialists at enterprises after graduation from the university.
“The main work is carried out during the period of study in carrying out all types of internships and organization of the work of the university commission to promote the employment of graduates in the last year of studies. To this end, the university maintains constant contacts with enterprises - potential employers, which about three thousand long-term cooperation agreements have been concluded with,” says Sergey Koval, head of the SUSU Career and Employability Services.
The largest enterprises in the region and the country offer interesting programs for SUSU students. For example, students of the university have a unique opportunity to receive a personal scholarship, undergo an internship and get a subsequent job in the prestigious energy sales company of the South Urals - Uralenergosbyt. In 2020, a cooperation agreement was concluded between the university and the company, within the framework of which the scholarship program “Future UES Professionals” operates. During the last two years of study, the company actively supervises the participants of this program, it pays monthly scholarships (the size of the personal scholarship is 3000 roubles (the last year of study) or 2000 roubles (the next to the last year of study)), involves students in corporate life and introduces them to the intricacies of the profession, and the main thing is that it guarantees employment immediately after graduation.
Uralenergosbyt is an advanced energy sales company that is actively developing and using the most modern software systems and tools in its work. Such work can give the student not only a huge professional experience, but also become a springboard for his entire subsequent career.
Students of 3-5 years of studies, future programmers, lawyers or students of the Faculty of Power Engineering, who successfully and timely have passed exams, tests and received not less than “good” and “excellent” marks for the entire period of study; who have not missed the classes without good reason; who have received a positive feedback from the head of the practical training, under whose supervision they have passed internship in the company; who are willing to find a job in the organization after graduation, can apply to the “Future UES Professionals” program.
The number of places is limited, so the final decision on the admission of students, based on the results of a comprehensive assessment, is made by the Uralenergosbyt Commission. In addition, according to Sergey Koval, university students are given the opportunity to decide on their own enterprise - the place of internship, if s/he considers it as a future place of his/her work, s/he has a desire to learn his/her activities and establish her/himself. The loyal approach of the university to the places of internship contributes to more successful adaptation of graduates and the exclusion of a probationary period upon entering work in the future.
So, for example, today, graduates of the 2019-2020 academic year work at the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (87 people), at Academician V.P. Makeyev State Rocket Centre in Miass (60 people), at the Chelpipe Group (64 people), in the Mayak Production Association in Ozersk (59 people) and at other large enterprises of the Chelyabinsk region.
“In addition to the implementation of direct work to assist in the employment of graduates, our Services, together with the departments, are taking measures to take into account the opinion of employers about the quality of education of students. In this regard, in the process of conducting student internship, the university monitors employers' satisfaction with the quality of student training in order to make adjustments to the curriculum for training specialists. On the whole, employers highly appreciate the quality of preparation of university students,” says Sergey Koval.
SUSU students can also undergo practical training as part of student labour teams, where, in addition to acquiring and practical consolidation of the necessary competencies, they demonstrate, develop and acquire the necessary leadership qualities in the future. More than 500 students undergo practical training annually as part of student labour teams. For students of the university, field practice is organized in other cities of Russia. The Assembly of Employers is held annually at South Ural State University that is a large-scale project to develop collaboration between enterprises of the real sector of the economy and the university. Representatives of leading companies in the South Urals and Russia in various areas of activity meet with students to talk about work at their enterprises, the advantages of the organization, prospects and opportunities for employee growth. Thanks to the project, students can ask their questions to a potential employer in real time, and company representatives can choose promising young specialists for further employment.
