Enroll-2021: Russian as a Foreign Language

The Russian language is one of the six official international languages of the United Nations. 260 million people speak Russian, which makes it sixth among all languages in the world in terms of the total number of speakers. It is the language of science, culture and an actively developing economy. Mastering the Russian language provides not only an opportunity to touch the great culture, but also to receive information about the economic and political contacts of Russia, about its impact on the world community. You can become a specialist in the field of philology by completing training in SUSU at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language.

Bachelor’s Degree

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communications invites applicants to complete training in 45.03.01 Philology, Teaching of Philological Disciplines. The program is designed for international students who not only want to improve their level of proficiency in Russian, but also to learn how to teach Russian.

Students are engaged in scientific activities and take part in international science-to-practice conference and exhibitions. Philological disciplines are combined with digital technologies. As part of project-based learning, students participate in the development and creation of a nationally oriented electronic course on Russian as a foreign language, which includes the specifics of their native language. Among the unique projects of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language there are four open online courses on Russian phonetics for native speakers of Arabic and Chinese.

All students are provided with an opportunity to take teaching practice in groups with international students and apply teaching skills in a real teaching situation.

Upon completing the programme, the students are assigned the degree of a Bachelor in Philology.

Duration of training: 4 years in full-time state-funded and contract-based programme. Entrance examinations: interview. Graduates of this programme have the opportunity to continue their studies in the Master's degree programme in the field of humanities.

Master’s degree

For those who want to work for international enterprises or organize their own business, a new 45.04.01 Philology, Russian in Business Communication Master’s degree programme was opened at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language in 2020.

In the programme, big attention is paid to mastering Russian in an oral and written forms, business communication and business etiquette, cross-cultural interaction, and the development of the ability to create written business texts.

The full-time/part-time form of study allows Master’s students to simultaneously study the Russian language and acquire communication skills in the business sphere.

“This form of training allows our international students to improve their command of Russian language and study the specifics of business communication in the Russian business environment. Despite the fact that our department specializes in providing trainingfor international citizens, we believe that completing our Master's degree programme will be interesting for Russian students as well, since studying in a multicultural environment provides additional practice and facilitates excellent professional training,” says the Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language Elena Kharchenko.

Duration of training: 2.5 years in full-time/part-time contract-based programme.

Entrance examinations: interview.

45.04.01 Philology, Russian as a Foreign Language Master’s degree is designed for international and Russian citizens. It is also aimed at training teachers of the Russian language.

Students study Russian in theoretical and practical aspects, methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, and participate in research projects.

Duration of training: 2 years in full-time contract-based programme.

Entrance examinations: interview.

Graduates of the department will be able to work in the field of education, cross-cultural communication, in major government and commercial structures, in the editorial board of publishing houses, in the media and in business.

The academic partners of the department are the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, RUDN University, Ural Federal University, Bashkir State University, Ural State Pedagogical University, Udmurt State University, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Chelyabinsk State University.
