On March 5-7th the National Championship of the Russian Student Athletic Union took place in Yaroslavl. The competition was attended by 47 universities, which were divided into two groups according to the presence of a sports department or institute. The first group included 20 teams, including the team of the Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service of South Ural State University. In a highly competitive struggle, the team of SUSU took the silver medal, losing only to the team of Moscow State University of Physical Culture and Sport.
"It's always exciting to represent your university at competitions, you feel even more responsible. Our individual results gained our team points, everyone fought for the overall highest result. I think we were able to show a decent result and compete well with other athletes," shared her impressions Elina Luneva, a student of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service.
Of the 17 people who competed for the team, 14 athletes returned home with medals. The team showed two results at the Master of Sports level in race walking and 13 results at the level of Candidate for Master of Sports, including the women's relay race.
"The contest between the competitors was very strong. I am happy with my result, because I was able to confirm the title of Master of Sports and take third place. We worried for one another other, we were rooting for each other. Thanks to our sporting spirit, we were able to show good results," said Alexandra Simakova, a student of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service.

"Our athletes have always taken placed highly in various competitions. In Yaroslavl, the track and field team showed brilliant results, thanks to which the athletes of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service climbed to the silver podium. We were just a little bit short of first place, but this is an incentive for us to grow and develop further," said Albert Aminov, Head of the Department of Sports Perfection, Director of SUSU Physical Culture and Sports Club.
In 2020, the SUSU track and field team took part in the regional cross-country competition, the Winter Universiade, and most importantly the All-Russian Universiade, where it took sixth place, falling behind only specialized institutions of physical education.
