Institute of Law Organised International Student Contest in a Trial Format

April 25 through April 26, 2024 the SUSU Institute of Law welcomed participants of the 4th Lievschietz Moot Court International Student Contest, conducted in a model trial format.

As a result of the selection round, in which 32 teams from various Russian universities from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad took part, eight teams made it to the finals, including: Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University; Higher School of Economics, Moscow; the Moscow national team (Lomonosov Moscow State University, MGIMO, Higher School of Economics); Saint Petersburg State University; Ural State University of Law; Tyumen State University; Udmurt State University, and South Ural State University.

The final round consisted of two stages. At the first one, the teams presented their positions in a criminal case according to the rules of the appellate court before a competent jury formed of lawyers, retired judges, and representatives of scientific community. The winners of this stage went on to the Chelyabinsk Regional Court, where professional judges became members of the jury.

The Chairman of the Regional Court Vyacheslav Malashkovets awarded the team of Udmurt State University for winning the competition. The Moscow team took the second place.

The organizers of the contest express gratitude to the Chairman of the Chelyabinsk Regional Court V. Malashkovets, Deputy Chairman of the Chelyabinsk Regional Court E. Drobysheva, the judges, the court administrator S. Ponomarenko, as well as the Director of the Institute of Law E. Titova for assistance in organizing and holding of this contest.
